Let's turn this around and imagine this.

There is a reason I dearly love to read Peggy Noonan. Not only is she the classiest journalist around but she can get to the most important point of the story in the most direct and clear way. Like this:

"Close your eyes and imagine this.

President Bush is introduced at a great gathering in Topeka, Kan. It is the evening of June 9, 2005. Ruffles and flourishes, "Hail to the Chief," hearty applause from a packed ballroom. Mr. Bush walks to the podium and delivers the following address.

"Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. I want to speak this evening about how I see the political landscape. Let me jump right in. The struggle between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party is a struggle between good and evil--and we're the good. I hate Democrats. Let's face it, they have never made an honest living in their lives. Who are they, really, but people who are intent on abusing power, destroying the United States Senate and undermining our Constitution? They have no shame.

But why would they? They have never been acquainted with the truth. You ever been to a Democratic fundraiser? They all look the same. They all behave the same. They have a dictatorship, and suffer from zeal so extreme they think they have a direct line to heaven. But what would you expect when you have a far left extremist base? We cannot afford more of their leadership. I call on you to help me defeat them!"

Imagine Mr. Bush saying those things, and the crowd roaring with lusty delight. Imagine John McCain saying them for that matter, or any other likely Republican candidate for president, or Ken Mehlman, the head of the Republican National Committee.

Can you imagine them talking this way? Me neither. Because they wouldn't."

The statements above attributed to Bush are a mix of the actual statements made by Dean and Hillary. Noonan goes on to say:

Messrs. Bush, McCain, et al., would find talk like that to be extreme, damaging, desperate. They would understand it would tend to add a new level of hysteria to political discourse, and that's not good for the country. I think they would know such talk is unworthy in a leader, or potential leader, of a great democracy. I think they would understand that talk like that is destructive to the ties that bind--and to the speaker's political prospect.

Why don't Hillary Clinton and Howard Dean know this? And what does it mean that they do not know it?"

It means they don't get it. It means they group people together in some false sterotype and honestly believe it.

Luckily for us, no one else outside of Washingston politcs really does.

It's pretty much a white Christian party. We are more welcoming to different folks, because that's the kind of people we are," Dean said Monday, responding to a question about diversity during a forum with minority leaders and journalists.
"You know, the Republicans are not very friendly to different kinds of people. They are a pretty monolithic party. Pretty much, they all behave the same, and they all look the same. ... It's pretty much a white Christian party," the former Vermont governor told a San Francisco roundtable Monday in reaction to a question about the lack of outreach to minority communities by political parties.
[...] After the story of Dean's comments broke on SFGate.com, The Chronicle Web site, on Tuesday and was picked up by the Drudge Report, DNC spokesman Josh Earnest scrambled to soften the impact of Dean's comments. Oh yeah, the Republican leadership! Right....which is sooooo unlike the Democrat leadership. Well, because there is Harry Reid and he is...oh wait. Ok, there is Dean himself and he is...oh nevermind. WAIT! Their favorite set of Democrats are Hillary and Bill and they are........OMG! White and Christian too!!! No. NO! Give me a minute...ummm.... Ted Kennedy? Damn. The History Channel is running a series on the rise of Hitler. They are showing footage that I have never seen before. I told myself to change the channel. I knew it would depress me, but I watched for awhile.

As they showed some footage of Hitler's officers. I moved close to the TV. I tried to peer into these stone faced men. I wanted to look into their eyes, but their eyes seemed dead to me. Empty and souless.

They showed actual filming of the soldiers shooting Jews lined up in ditches. A soldier stood off to the right side of the camera's line of sight with his back to the camera . Just before the shooting he turns to look at the camera as if to make sure it is getting the shot.

I peer closely to look at his face. My mind asks, "Who are you? What made you such a monster?" But he turns back as they shoot and the line of Jews fall silently and he is watching.

Chilling.

When I was 12 I read "The Diary Of Anne Frank" and cried myself to sleep. I drove my parents crazy with questions about it. Then I read Corrie Ten Boom's "The Hiding Place" about a family who hid Jews and was caught and sent to the camps. Only Corrie survived. And years later I read about the man who became my favorite Saint, Father Maximilian Kolbe who was a Priest who died in the camps. He took the place of a Jew who was asking for mercy from the guards. All true stories of incredible faith and strength.

It was a time of true horror, but these stories proved to me that goodness and love cannot be erased by the darkness of man's heart.

Bush is canceling all of the debt in the poorest of nations of Africa as well as providing $674 million in additional resources to that continent.

Fox News says:

The United States has already provided $1.4 billion to Africa this year through the United Nations and separately pledged $15 billion to fight AIDS in Africa over the next decade. Bush noted that U.S. aid for Africa has tripled during his presidency.

Guess we will be hearing all the cheering from the left about how generous Bush is.....NOT.

Poor President Bush. He will get NO credit from the left and my Southpark Republican friends are surely ticked at all the money he is giving away.

Only us compassionate conservatives are on his side.

Good thing he doesn't give a damn what those against him think. He just does what he thinks is right.

Bloody Toes.

When I was four my Daddy decided to build a pool in our backyard. Now when I say 'build' I don't mean he called up a pool company. He called a guy with one of those digger machines and he dug a great big whole and squared it off. Then he called a guy to come concrete and plaster it and he helped. The he called a guy to come lay concrete all around the pool. Then my Dad took real bricks and lined the pool. He stuck the hose in and in about a week, it was full.

No one had fences back then, much less wooden ones. Dad didn't want any child drowning in our pool, so he put a 8 foot chain link fence around the pool with barbed wire sticking out from the top. (yes, I said barbed wire) It was certainly safe now, but it had the ambiance of a federal prison.

So...my Dad bought some cream colored metal strips and wove them through the entire fence. He took some fast growing vine and wrapped it around the barbed and then he planted sugarcane in front of the fence.

So much better. Now it looked like a federal prison in Thailand.

Anyway, I guess I spent the better part of my summers of childhood in that pool. I love the water. I love to swim. But even with our rough summer barefeet bottoms, we couldn't escape the roughness and heat of the concrete and the brick. My toes especially would bleed like mad. I never noticed or cared until I was inside and Mom was putting bandaids on them.

Where am I going with this?

Five years ago we moved and I finally got the pool I had been waiting to get for years. We did call up a pool company and they built a lovely pool we designed ourselves. I put a nice patio around the pool called "cool deck" because it is soft and doesn't get hot. I built a nice "tanning bed" on the edge of the shallow end. We planted palm trees and all sorts of tropical flowers. It is my own little backyard paradise.....and I have to PUSH my kids out the door. With TV, computer, video games and such they find it hard to wander outside. So everyday I insist they go and push them out the door.

What a difference a generation makes. They sigh and roll their eyes when I tell them how lucky and blessed they are. I don't have stories of walking to school for 10 miles in the snow, but I have my bloody toes.

The southern equivalent , I suppose...;-)

Jeff at Protein Wisdom makes the point for state rights and has every link you could want except maybe where to score. But I am sure he could get that for you. When it comes to drug policy I depend on Jeff for all my information. He is a been there done that kinda guy..;-)

I thought I might expand on this post a bit. You might be surprised to learn that I am not against the legalization of marijuana. I am not for it either. I just haven't been convinced either way. I don't see the harm of patients experiencing nausea using it with doctor's care though and the Supreme Court ruling doesn't seem right to me.

I have never smoked pot. But when I was in theatre for many years I was around many who did of course. I would much rather be around someone high than someone drunk. I really don't see much of a difference in drinking and smoking even morally, except for the legal aspect of it. Many say it is a gateway drug, but I have found that if one wants to numb the pain they are going to go far to do that whether it be drugs or drinking. Those who just wish to relax, do just that. It is quite easy to distinguish between the two.

So I am ready to be convinced either way. What do ya'll think?

The media pack has made a brief reappearance in Afghanistan to report on carefully staged "spontaneous" riots, which briefly erupted around the country, ostensibly in protest over a report in Newsweek (later retracted) about desecration of Koran by the American military personnel at Guantanamo Bay.
Sadly, in the rush of commentary about Afghanistan's slide into anarchy and America's deteriorating position in Kabul, most of the international media again missed or downplayed many other stories, some of them arguably far more consequential than an antigovernment rampage whipped up by opponents of President Hamid Karzai. Take this story:
A crowd of 600 Afghan clerics gathered in front of an historic mosque yesterday to strip the fugitive Taliban leader Mullah Mohammed Omar of his claim to religious authority, in a ceremony that provided a significant boost to the presidency of Hamid Karzai.
The declaration, signed by 1,000 clerics from across the country, is an endorsement of the US-backed programme of reconciliation with more moderate elements of the Taliban movement that Karzai has been pursuing ahead of the country's first parliamentary elections, due in September.
Symbolically, the ulema shura, or council of clerics, was held at the Blue Mosque in the southern city of Kandahar, the spiritual home of the Taliban movement.
At the same venue in 1996 the Taliban leader held up a cloak said to belong to the Prophet Mohammed, which is kept in a shrine in the mosque. He was proclaimed Amir ul-Mumineen or Leader of Muslims by the same clerical body, one of the few occasions the title has been granted anywhere in the Islamic world in the modern era. Gorbachev on Gorbachev.

Timesonline has a very interesting interview with Mikhail Gorbachev. Although his claim that Jesus was a socialist is laughable. But I always laugh when anyone tries to paint Christ with a political brush. Christ claimed to be one thing and one thing only. Our Savior.

I was touched by Gorbachev's description of missing his wife who passed away in 1999 until the last sentence:

"You can say I am lost. The first three years really threw me out of kilter. Raisa was always the foremost in my mind, and remains so in my memory. What Gorbachev is to the world, she is for me."

Think a lot of yourself there, don't cha Gorby? Geeze.

Gorbachev also speaks fondly of Pope John Paul. He says they wrote letters to one another up until his death. I would LOVE to take a look at those letters.

A Question Of War.

Whew! I finally got home! I haven't been able to get to my hotmail account since this lightening thing so if you have e-mailed me I WILL get back to you. I will hopefully be getting it fixed this evening.

Ok, since I have so many leftie's attention I want to ask a question.

As many here will agree I am no intellectual. As I have said many times, I am a simple woman and I try to look at things in the simplest way possible.

Now, about this war. About 8 months ago or so I posted on the terrorists strapping a bomb to a down syndrome child. I was so angry I could hardly type. To do this to a child of such innocence just boggles the mind. I think we can all agree that that is the personification of evil. Can't we??? Can I get an Amen from the left and the right on that?????

Ok, so this is what we are dealing with over there. Pure evil. One commenter said once that those things were happening because we stirred up a hornet's nest over there. So let's go with that analogy.

If you discovered a hornets nest in your back yard and it stung your children badly, would you leave it alone? After all if you leave the hornet's nest alone, they are still hornets and they aren't leaving. They are breeding and making more nests and becoming more of a danger. Soon, they are in your house swarming and then you have a much bigger problem and have to deal with it in a much bigger way.

This fanatical Islamic belief isn't going away, it stung several times and will again if given the chance. One commenter here said that Pakistan was actually more of a danger than Iraq had been. Perhaps that is true. I don't know. But my question is this.

If you had been President after 9-11 what would you have done after Afghanistan?

My Tribe.

I just have to put up a positive post! I will be glad when I have some more time when I get home on Monday.

Remember when I forced ya'll to read my short story and in that story I wrote about the legend of the beginning of the world where there were but a few tribes of people? And now, if we are lucky, we find someone from our own tribe? Someone did actually tell me that once and I thought it was beautiful sentiment. I have found 3 people from my tribe on this earth and I feel SO blessed and lucky to have found them.

My best friends, who I have been visiting, are like my the sisters I never had. Through the many years we have known each other we have kept each other's babies and secrets, comforted each other, cried when I had to move, and loved each other and loved each other's children. We give and take advice. We vent our frustrations and we pray for each other.

I honestly don't know how I would have made it this far without them. They mean more to me than I can ever express. People say if you have one good friend in your life, you are lucky.

I have been three times blessed.

Deaths

I have been hearing quite a bit from the left about the number of civilian deaths since this war began. Here is something for my leftwing friends to think about.

Since abortion was legalized in 1973 in this country, more unborn children have been killed than human life taken in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq COMBINED.

And it wasn't from a war either. It was purposeful and legal.

So until the Democratic party can stand up against those deaths, they have no moral credibility with me on the issue of death.

Charles Krauthammer in Time Magazine rocks with this article regarding people "with deeply held views."

Here is an excerpt:

"The Op-Ed pages are filled with jeremiads about believers--principally evangelical Christians and traditional Catholics--bent on turning the U.S. into a theocracy. Now I am not much of a believer, but there is something deeply wrong--indeed, deeply un-American--about fearing people simply because they believe. It seems perfectly O.K. for secularists to impose their secular views on America, such as, say, legalized abortion or gay marriage. But when someone takes the contrary view, all of a sudden he is trying to impose his view on you. And if that contrary view happens to be rooted in Scripture or some kind of religious belief system, the very public advocacy of that view becomes a violation of the U.S. constitutional order."

What might have been.

Tech Central Station has an excellent article on "Operation Thunder."

"The much talked about "cordon and sweep" of Baghdad by an estimated 40,000 Iraqi police and military and "backed" by unknown thousands of U.S. troops has begun."

The article ends with what I think about all the time, but hardly anyone else seems to:

"The ongoing operations in Baghdad will be a deadly mix of tedium and danger. Innocents will be killed. Unintended but inevitable indignities will occur (and be duly reported). Desperate and deadly counterattacks will occur.

But, as bloody as these past weeks have been, and as bloody and uncertain as the coming days will be in Iraq, the real story -- hidden within little news and much noise -- is of the terrorist plans that will never be carried out, the attacks that will not occur. There is much, much more to all this than meets the media eye."

From all that we did after 9-11 with homeland security and invading Afhganistan and Iraq. Taking down Saddam, showing Syria, Iran, and Pakistan and the rest that we mean business...all these things...we will never know all that we prevented. We will never be shown a "how it would have been" ending of this drama.

With all the horror that occurs with war, we will never know the endless horror that didn't occur because of it. We can only imagine.

Thank God, we only have to imagine it.

It is what so many refuse to see or understand.

This Is Your War blog is shutting down. Too bad. It was one of the most well written exciting Milblogs. He truly had a way with the keyboard. If you haven't read him, go through some past posts. It's like reading a Tom Clancy novel. He really knows how to put you right there with him.

I just thank God we have the Milblogs. Because if it is between what the MSM is saying and the milblogs, I believe the warrior everytime.

Presidental History.

This whole thing about "deep throat" has gotten me to thinking about the eery similarities between President Nixon and President Clinton.

Both did something immoral and wrong.

Both lied to the American people.

Both of their respective parties said that despite their President's misdeeds they were still great Presidents.

Both had their respective parties say that past Presidents did the same thing, Nixon and Clinton just got caught.

Both had their respective parties understand how wrong it was to have leadership without moral clarity and discipline and allowed their leader to resign.

Oh wait. No.

Only the Republican party did.

Rescue Warriors.

Have you seen the National Geographic channel's "Rescue Warrior?" They filmed a ten week selection course that prepare men for Air Force Pararescue Jumper training. Everyday, the men face grueling physical challenges that continually escalate in intensity. One hundred percent commitment is the only option.

In this training session, of the 50 something men who started, only 15 remained to the end. I knew this training was difficult and that only the best become these Rescue Warriors, but I had NO IDEA. It was fascinating to watch the physical endurance these men go through. It isn't just about getting through the course, it is also about proving that it isn't about you, but about the team. My admiration and respect for these guys, already high, zoomed through the roof after seeing this. They are almost literally like supermen. Tough and committed. They work through pain that would put most of us in the hospital. Their personal sacrifice is amazing to see as well. Just the kind of guys you want to do the most dangerous work in a war. I understand they filmed some footage in Iraq, but I haven't seen that yet.

The National Geographic channel seems to be re-running this so check your TV guide. You have got to see it.

We needed a female POV since the big boys tend to ignore us a bit.(hmmm...kinda like in real life) and I will be contributing to The Unpaid Punditry Corps. War.

How many car/suicide bombers have their been since this war started? How anyone kept count? How many warped, brain washed men have strapped bombs to themselves, to women and even to children, and intentionally set out to kill innocent people as well as our military?

I have written many times of my pride in our military. I have written of support of our President in his decision to go to war. But here is something that might surprise you.

I do not believe in war.

And I will tell you something else I know. Our soldiers do not believe in war either.

Do you not think that unlike the car bombers, who are the macabre and twisted image of our soldiers, that our men and women do not want to come home? Do you not think they do not want to hurt one innocent person? Do you not think they hate this war? They hate this war as much as you and I do.

But they are soldiers. They are soldiers because the red blood of freedom runs through their veins. Nothing is more important than protecting that freedom.

But unfortunately there are men in this world who do believe in freedom, or decency, or equality. They believe in fatwa, in 72 heavenly virgins, in subservient women in burkas, and a world with unbreakable rules.

They believe in a false god that promises heaven, but only if they provide hell first.

We all grow weary of this war. We want it to end. We are all agreed on that one point. What we don't agree on is why and how we got here. We are told by the left over and over that Iraq had nothing to do with 9-11. We are told that Iraq did not attack us. And both those things are true. But what is also true is that no country attacked us. A belief attacked us. a hellish belief that rocked us and woke us up to this central truth. There are untold numbers of people who hate us. Who believe we are "infidels." These people would drop a nuclear bomb on us without hesitation or attack us on our shores in any way possible if given the chance.

We will not give them that chance.

It wasn't Iraq or Syria or Iran or Saudi Arabia who attacked us. If you take away the names of the countries you are left with the same mindset of so many there. The same fanatical warping of their religion. You have men determined to kill Americans regardless, and even with the intent, of killing innocent human life to do so. If nothing was done to change that now, I don't believe that it would have been possible in the future to change it without drastic measures that would have made this war look like a picnic.

Why Iraq? Why not Iraq? It's leadership posed the most danger in giving terrorists what they wanted. Taking down a brutal dictator and infusing democracy was icing on the cake. The infected disease of a warped Islamic belief was spreading in the Middle East, covering the region with the oozing wound of itself. The seemingly unending numbers of car bombers is proof enough of that. How else would we have gone after the terrorists? They lived in no one country. Should we have gone into the whole region? Do any of you believe that if we had never invaded Iraq that these men would have lived quiet lives as construction workers or businessmen? Do you believe that they never again would have found their way to our shores? Do you believe that there would never be another 9-11?

I don't believe in war. But I don't believe in allowing evil even more.

Yesterday we had a thunderstorm go over. I had some family visiting and we were standing in the front hallway and my son was about to leave and had his hand on the doorknob. The lightning and thunder were fierce and I was worried about him leaving. Suddenly lightning struck my house. It hit somewhere close to where we were because it went through the doorknob and shocked my son. (he was fine) The thunder was so loud it made our ears ring and my burglar alarm went off.

My son ran up the stairs and I knew he was thinking of his prized possession, the computer he built from scratch.

Long story short. It blew out two of my 34 inch TV's, a DVD player, a phone and my wireless modem. Thank God it didn't blow our three computers. So... today we bought 2 new TV's. A good excuse to get flat screen HD TVs anyway.

Good thing there were Memorial Day sales.

I am using an old modem now which seems to only let one of our computers online. I hope to get it fixed before I leave on Wednesday. I will be traveling for a few days but hope to keep blogging from where I am.

I hope everyone had a lovely Memorial Day weekend.

My sister-in-law sent me this naughty joke. I blame it all on her. Heh.

A farmer has about 500 hens, but no rooster and wants chicks. He goes down the road to the next farmer and asks if he has a rooster that he would sell. The other farmer says, "Yep, I've got this great rooster named Kenny. He'll service every chicken you got - no problem."

Kenny the rooster cost the farmer $3,000, but the farmer decides he'd be worth it, so he buys Kenny. The farmer takes Kenny home and sets him down in the barnyard and gives the rooster a pep talk.

"I want you to pace your self now. You've got a lot of chickens to service here and you cost me a lot of money. I'll need you to do a good job, so take your time and have some fun." The farmer points toward the hen house and Kenny takes off like a shot.

WHAM! Kenny nails every hen in the hen house, the farmer is shocked. Then the farmer hears a commotion in the duck pen and, sure enough, Kenny is in there.

Later the farmer sees Kenny after a flock of geese down by the lake. Once again - WHAM! He gets all the geese. By sunset he sees Kenny out in the fields chasing quail and pheasants.

The farmer is distraught and worried that his expensive rooster won't even last 24 hours. Sure enough, the farmer wakes up the next morning to find Kenny on his back out in the middle of the yard, mouth open, tongue hanging out and both feet sticking straight up in the air with buzzards circling overhead.

The farmer, saddened by the loss of such a colorful and expensive animal, shakes his head and says, "Kenny, I told you to take your time, now look at what you've done to yourself !"

Kenny opens one eye, nods toward the buzzards circling in the sky and says, "Shhh..... they're getting closer."

They feel vindicated, because when they first read the Newsweek allegations, it confirmed some dark suspicions they covet regarding our military. They were openly disappointed when Newsweek retracted the story. Most will never admit it publicly, but they want the stories to be true, so they can use them to shame their political enemies.

If this describes you at all, I ask you to pause and reflect on this for a moment: in your eagerness to score some cheap partisan points, are you advancing the agenda of the same terrorists who attacked us on September 11, 2001? Consider who has the most to gain from spreading these rumors. Yes, that’s exactly what they are: rumors. The FBI memos didn’t reveal any new information – these same allegations have been floating around for over two years. The allegations may or may not be true – the Pentagon claims that are “not credible,” while the ACLU is convinced that they have concrete evidence of torture. But all other things being equal, don’t our men and women in uniform deserve the benefit of the doubt?

Or does the principle of “innocent until proven guilty” only apply to wealthy celebrities and enemy combatants?"

The saddest thing of all is that it is people within our own country not giving the soldiers the benefit of the doubt. And we all know who they are.

Poor guys. Considering what your mom told you when you were a teen and now this, it's wonder any of you can see at all.

The Belmont Club sums the Amnesty International's Report perfectly:

FactCheck debunks the claim, made most recently by Howard Dean this past Sunday, and by Sens. Hillary Clinton and John Kerry in recent statements.

The report indicates those eager to criticize President Bush picked up on a claim based on incomplete and inaccurate data:

This claim is false. It's based on an an opinion piece that used data from only 16 states. A study by the Alan Guttmacher Institute of 43 states found that abortions have actually decreased... The claim that abortions are rising again can be traced back to an opinion piece by Glen Harold Stassen, an ethics professor at Fuller Theological Seminary... Stassen's broad conclusion wasn't justified by the sketchy information he cited, however. Furthermore, a primary organization he cited specifically as a source for historical data now contradicts him, saying abortions have continued to decline since Bush took office.

The Guttmacher Institute is no fan of the Administration's policies - they were 'founded in 1968 in honor of a former president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America', and describes [their] mission as being 'to protect the reproductive choice of all women and men in the United States and throughout the world.'

But even they had to admit the Administration's policies are working. 'Had Stassen's numbers proven accurate, the Institute would have reported and widely publicized a rise in abortion rates,' said [the Institute's Leila] Darabi. 'But facts are facts.'

We urge you to set the record straight. Get the truth about the Democrats' misleading claim here.

It's A Gamble.

John McCain just made a bet that will either give him the '08 nomination or condemn him to political extinction. A risky gamble for this guy. But say what you like about him, taking chances is what he does best.

He is betting that this compromise with the Democrats will get all the judicial nominees that we wanted through with no filibuster (or a filibuster that makes Democrats look like they broke a deal, which would be excellent for us) and we didn't have to use the nuclear option and we look like reasonable negotiators.

If this works, then McCain will look like a hero. If it doesn't, then he is toast for the '08 nomination. But his odds are looking pretty good. If the Democrats threaten a filibuster when a clearly qualified judge comes up, then the Republicans look like they have a clear right to use the nuclear option. No amount of cartoonish ads are going to change that.

For social conservatives nothing is more important than getting a strict constructionist on the Supreme Court. If this happens and we win-

Understanding Christian Consevatives 101.

I'm going to repost some stuff from my early blogging for new commenters. Some things need to be repeated. This one is from Nov. 15th, 2004.

I'm in a mood today so watch out.

This time it isn't at the lefties. I noticed from the start of my blogging that the "big time" bloggers, those who get the most hits and attention ( and you know who you are ) were all Republican, or some kind of converted libertarians. And that's fine. But then came all this "Jesusland" stuff. The vile and hatred of Christians from the left made it obvious why Bush had won. I read many many well known blogs defending us Christians, making fun of the left and it's moronic image of Christians. I appreciated that, really I did. These blogs were glad we were on their side. But it seemed at the beginning of the defense of us, you always said "I am not religious but,....." And that is fine too. Because Christian faith in and of itself cannot be forced. It must be freely chosen or it is no faith at all.

Stick with me here, because I DO have a point.

I heard a story on Rush today. He was playing an audio of Tina Brown's show. The audio had Tina talking about a piece she wrote regarding a dinner party before the election in New York where she and the elite among us were discussing how to beat Bush. Suddenly a waiter serving them boldy stated, "Well, I am from the suburbs and I am voting for Bush." I had to laugh. Can you imagine their faces? I would love to have seen it..... "The peasant speaks!!!! How dare he! Off to the dungeon!!!

"The point of Tina's story was that the democrats had to come up with a strategy to win over the voters from the suburbs, "the little people," if you will. You know, the ones who do their own yardwork and wash their own clothes. THOSE people. Rush pointed out that this is the elites problem. You don't figure out a strategy for these people. You have to know them. You have to know what their values are. You have to know what they believe.

Now where am I going with this? The same can be said of many of the conservative bloggers about people of faith. Powerline, Glenn Reynolds, LGF, Wizbang and the rest. You don't know or understand Christians (or those of deep faith from other religions) too well, or you wouldn't dismiss our concerns on social issues. The idea of Arlen Spector as head of the judiciary committee doesn't bother you a bit, yet it horrifies us. Another 'moderate' supreme court judge seems fine to you. Good God! Look what the moderate ones have brought us so far. If all you seem to care about are the economic issues, then we become the Republicans the democrats imagine us to be, greedy and self involved.

This is what we, people of faith, care about on social issues:

Listen up class. Look at the board.

1) Abortion. Yeah, you are all mostly guys and you don't care. Your use to it ..blah blah blah... Well, we are sick of 4000 unborn children being destroyed everyday in this country, so sick of it that we are even willing to compromise. How about giving us what just about every reasoned American agrees on...First trimester only, unless the life of the mother is in danger, parental consent for minors, 24 hour waiting period, and informed surgical consent. What??? You didn't know that abortion is the only surgical procedure in the country where there is no informed consent? Where a doctor is not required to tell you about the procedure beforehand. You didn't know a 13 yr old could get an abortion and her parents need never know??? That's because you haven't been paying attention. That's because you don't give a damn.

2) No gay marriage. Not because we hate gays, not because we are homophopic. We have gay friends and relatives we adore. And I shudder at what the fashion industry would be like without them. ;-) We don't want marriage re-defined. It is the foundation of our society and it's hard enough to keep it together as it is. It opens the pandora's box of unions and we all know it. All issues of rights regarding property, inheritance, children ect.. can be handled legally and we all know that too.

3) Pornography. Yeah, your guilty of looking at it. We know. Your a grownup, you want to look at it, go for it. But the internet is in our homes and our kids are seeing things you wouldn't want to expose your dog to. We want it restricted, we want it mandated and required that all pornography sites must verify that an adult is the one looking at the website. I don't give a rat's butt about credit card and privacy issues, I care about our children. And they are being damaged beyond belief by what Johnny next door is pulling up on his computer and showing your 9 yr old, while at your house your nice safe computer software and firewall sit idle.

4) Faith based iniatives. Being the sister of a recovering alcoholic, I know a little about this. I believe and most studies show that recovery programs that are run by people who do the work out of love for God's children, and not a government paycheck, do a MUCH better job at helping and sustaining the recovery of the addicted person. These iniatives work better at helping those in welfare programs and homeless programs for the same reasons. Welfare was suppose to be a stop gap program, not the billion dollar fraud industry it is today. You don't stop the vicious cycle of poverty by rewarding it. Yes, there are many job training programs that work well run by the government, but when it comes to personal responsibility, the Church and other faith based programs teach those who are struggling with life how to be strong. A government check does the opposite. The government should have a role in helping those TRULY in need, the elderly poor and the impoverished children. But those addicted, in need of fatherly guidance, in need of clothing and food, in need of caring and shelter. These can be addressed by people of faith or even those just willing to help mankind out of love from their own atheist heart. The transition cannot happen overnight, but DANG..... let it begin.

This, blogger boys, are why we are called "compassionate conservatives."

The left has resisted these programs because the people needing help might....Actually.....Become.....CHRISTIANS!!!!! OMG!! THE HORROR!!!! And here is the big secret of Christians.... shhhh...... don't tell......*whisper* We actually spend most of our time ministering to those who need help in soup kitchens, need programs, nursing homes, and pregnancy crisis centers ect... We don't sit around rubbing our hands together trying to figure out how to blow up abortion clinics or make signs saying "God hates fags." IN FACT, (now this is a super secret!!!) WE are as HORRIFIED by those people as the left are. (Don't tell. What would the left write about if they knew?) But you knew that, right? Now, all we asking is a little payback here. We waited in line hours to vote for the man that best represented our values. Maybe you don't give a flying squirrel about them, but we do. We gave what you wanted, we had your back, now you have ours.

Got it?

Good.

Who could have predicted this?

Victor Davis Hanson gives us a look at what a speech of George W. Bush's would have looked like the day after Sept. 11th, if he would have predicted what actually has happened since:

"Ours is not a war on Muslims or the Arab world. Rather, we are in a struggle against a new fascism that resorts to terror. Osama bin Laden must distort Islam and deflect blame onto the United States for the self-inflicted miseries of the Middle East, created by its own illiberal dictatorships.

"Therefore, American strategy is three-pronged:

"We will hunt down terrorist cells in the United States that due to our laxity have already infiltrated the West."

America will remove rogue regimes abroad that have funded and supported these killers.

"In their places, the United States will support consensual governments to ensure a third choice other than just Islamic theocracy or brutal dictatorship.

"The Taliban ruler Mullah Omar and Saddam Hussein are formidable. Their removal halfway around the world may cost hundreds of American lives. Yet if we act forcefully now, we can fight the suicide bombers and autocrats on their own turf. That way, in the days ahead we will lose far fewer Americans in this war abroad than we have yesterday in peace at home. Only this difficult road ensures that in four years we will not witness a repeat of yesterday's mass murder on American soil."


"Had the president promised or even predicted such things after Sept. 11, most of us would have dismissed him as utterly unhinged. But that is precisely what has come to pass.

It is now time to concede it was not entirely a coincidence, and that President Bush was not a "Pink Panther"-like Inspector Clouseau who bumbled about the Middle East, overturned a few things and ended up accidentally accomplishing what legions of "experts" never could."

The Belmont Club has an excellent take on the Newsweek/NY Times news coverage or what they see as important news. Here is an excerpt:

Maybe it reflects the inherent importance of the stories but it more probably demonstrates the media's ability to prolong the life of some stories while ignoring others. I hope it is not impertinent to observe that the media's demeanor towards terrorism bears more than a passing resemblance to cheap cowardice; but though outwardly similar it really springs from a high-minded idealism, deep courage and profound learning. Or so I hope."

Washington's Post has this article by James Watt (former secretary of the interior under Reagan): "The Religious Left's lies."

Referring to Bill Moyers of PBS fame, Watt says this:

"Last December Moyers received an environmental award from Harvard University. About three paragraphs into the speech, after attacking the Bush administration, Moyers said: "James Watt told the U.S. Congress that protecting natural resources was unimportant in light of the imminent return of Jesus Christ. In public testimony he said, 'After the last tree is felled, Christ will come back.' Beltway elites snickered. The press corps didn't know what he was talking about. But James Watt was serious. So were his compatriots out across the country. They are the people who believe the Bible is literally true -- one-third of the American electorate if a recent Gallup poll is accurate."

I never said it. Never believed it. Never even thought it. I know no Christian who believes or preaches such error. The Bible commands conservation -- that we as Christians be careful stewards of the land and resources entrusted to us by the Creator."

Watt does goes on to say that Moyers has apologized to him, but I would like to know how it is that a well known man so outrageously lies to a Harvard University crowd no less and probably has everyone who listened to him that day still believing it, and has made no public statement apologizing for his lie.

The Real Enemy

This is a sermon delivered by Sheik Ibrahim Mudeiris, which ran last weekend on the Palestinian Authority's official TV station:

Scary stuff. This is via dave bones, who could not be further from me on the political spectrum yet he ends this on his blog with these words:

Now, here is something we ALL can agree on. The real enemy. Now if we could just get the democrats over here to understand that.

"After strong denials, a homosexual activist group admitted it made available to middle school and high school students an AIDS handbook described by critics as a "hard-core pornographic homosexual 'how-to.'"
The Boston Chapter of the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, GLSEN Boston, said the distribution at an April 30 event at Brookline High School violated its policy that no sexually explicit materials be made available."

Entitled "The Little Black Book – Queer in the 21st Century," the article goes on to say that the booklet contains graphic descriptions of homosexual conduct, including "fisting," along with a photo-spread discussion of condoms and instructions on how to put them on.

And the left wonders why we fight them so hard on social issues. They say "stay out of our bedroom." Well hell...who needs to go in your bedroom when you bring the bedroom to our children's school!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't want a booklet there describing heterosexual sex. How do these things happen??? Is NO ONE paying attention here????

Next thing you know we will have this video in the classroom. *WARNING* explicit content. May make one bang their head on computer or puke. Don't you love what is just a click away from our kids???? I am beginning to think that the internet is nothing but a small window in which we can view parts of hell.

Racism lives on.

I had a weird thing happen the other day. I went out to walk my youngest to the bus stop and there were these folders and papers strewn all over the street. I started picking them up and as I was looking at them I noticed they were work related and thumbing through the papers I realized I knew who's work this was. It was a mother of one of my daughter's Jr High friends when they had cheered together. I didn't know the mom well, except to see her at games, but her work number was on the papers so when I got home I called her. It seems her car had gotten broken into the night before and they had stolen her laptop and her briefcase. They had obviously thrown out what was in the briefcase. She was very grateful to have all the papers and said she would come get them.

I knew that she worked for a Human Resource firm and I was looking through her stuff. (yes, I know nosy and all that) Anyway, during meetings it seemed she had jotted notes on the side of some papers. One word caught my eye and I looked down the page to see what she had written. This was it: "Why all these niggers? For more of a head count?" My jaw just dropped. I asked my daughter to look at it and see if I was reading it wrong somehow. But she clearly saw the same thing. I tried to figure out some other word that could be but none came to me.

Her daughter ended up coming to get the papers so I couldn't ask about it. Which I am sure the first thing she would have said is "What the hell are you doing reading my stuff?" And she would have a point. But it saddened me that mature people would still write such a thing.

When I think of all I saw growing up in Mississippi. When I know how much pain blacks had to go through on their way to civil rights. When I think about the black families I knew. I am even more sad to think that so many young black people think nothing of calling each other the "n' word and that they listen to music that degrades women and sex and glorify the thugs that sing it. And most of all I feel sad for the breakdown of the black family. This is the warpath that Bill Cosby is on. 80% of black children being born into single family homes is just wrong and certainly not part of the dream of Dr. Marin Luther King Jr.

I saw a documentary not to long ago about Harlem in the 40's. The blacks had created their own little world there since they weren't accepted in the white one. Harlem thrived with business's and great blues music. Most families were in tact. They even had their own high society with fancy teas and balls.

As I was watching, I wondered that if any of those people were suddenly thrown into the future and saw Harlem today, how horrified they would be. I wondered if they would think it was worth it? Was their sacrifice worth this???? I think they would want to know what the hell happened?

What did happen? I think there are many factors. The main one being the welfare state. I personally witnessed this program take away the dignity of the black man. I saw welfare make it acceptable for a woman to have children without a man. It gave a man the excuse to run. It is, to me, the single worst thing to happen to black people after the civil rights movement.

That, mixed with popular culture and the victim status that the democratic party convinced blacks to believe in, contributed to the social ills they suffer today.

The social ills in turn give people like this mother I mentioned above an excuse to see them as 2nd class citizens. The answer is what it has always been. Education, manners, moral values, maturity, ambition, and hard work.

Of course every race needs these things. And what people like the woman who wrote that in her papers need is a good kick in the ass.
