It seems some are not happy with Kid Rock performing at Bush's inauguration concert. I know Kid Rock was a big supporter of Bush and especially of our troops, but I don't like Kid Rock myself. I find him gross and crude. I don't listen to his music so I have no idea whether he is good or not, but I am assuming that he will sing something appropriate. But we shouldn't object. I will go with Jeff Blogworthy on this one. via Protein Wisdom
Regarding the overturning of the conviction of Andrea Yates, the mother who drowned her 5 children in her bathtub a few years ago. The debate surrounding her seems to bring about alot of emotion because of her mental state and the fact that she was not receiving the medication and treatment she needed. The bottom line for me is that she held her kids under water as they thrased about in terror, even chasing the oldest down to drown him. The horror of it is the stuff of nightmares. I don't care why, I don't care that she had a mental illness. She did it. She should be in prison for life. Period. She is receiving medication now and that is the most she deserves at this point. Don't try and change my mind. Many have tried. Sorry, but in this society I always come down on the side of the child.
Conservative commentator Armstrong Williams accepted a contract for almost a quarter-of-a-million dollars from the Education Department to promote the No Child Left Behind Act. via MSNBC
It seems no laws were broken, but I am bothered by this. Only because he didn't make it clear that he was doing paid advertising. He says he did it because it is a cause he believes in, which is fine. But he still needed to disclose that he was being paid. I know he probably thought that people would question whether he really believed in No Child Left or if he was doing it just for the money.
I am also bothered by the notion that any Dept. of the government can pay a commentator to promote a certain agenda. I can see doing PSA's, but this seems sneaky and I don't like it. I know Williams is not a journalist, but he should still be above board regarding accepting any money in order to promote something on his show. I did watch his interview on CNN and he seemed contrite and said that he would always make sure the public knew he was being paid in a commercial way next time.
As Conservatives we need to walk the walk, not just talk the talk.
UPDATE: I just saw Williams on O'Reilly and there is a little more to the story. The Dept of Education (Rod Paige being the head) hired a PR firm that hired Williams to promote the No Child Left Behind Act. The White House had no knowledge of it, yet USA Today seemed determine to make that leap. Once again Williams was very contrite and agrees that it was not a smart move. He seems to be handling it very well, not being defensive, but accepting blame. Like I wrote, it doesn't seem right to me, but I would like to know if this has occurred in other administrations as well. Is this a one time thing or a common practice? Mark my words though, the liberals and the media will beat this horse well past death.

Punish the past. Praise the Present.
(CNN) -- Edgar Ray Killen, an 80-year-old Mississippi man, was arrested Thursday in the 1964 killings of three civil rights workers whose bodies were buried in an earthen dam outside the town of Philadelphia.
The article goes on to describe the way in which law enforcement officers were always involved in covering up murders of black men. This is the kind of thing I grew up with. This is what so many leftist don't understand when they moan and groan about how there is such injustice for people of color. I just want to scream. You want to see injustice?? Go back to Mississippi in 1964 buddy, THAT is injustice.
What is truly astonishing to me is how much changed and how quickly it changed. In less than a generation we turned around everything. My children cannot even imagine not having someone of color as a friend. My daughter went to homecoming with a good friend of hers, a nice young black boy who also happened to be the homecoming Duke. That would have been UNTHINKABLE when I was 15. If I had even tried to do that it would have been headline news in Jackson Mississippi and we probably would have been threatened and I shudder to think what would have happened to the boy. I mentioned that to my daughter and she looked at me with unbelief. She asked me if I was kidding. It was something she just couldn't wrap her mind around. And this all changed. 25 years later that kind of thing cannot even be believed.
So when Jesse Jackson rants about nothing changing and blacks still having to suffer under 'voter disenfranchisement' or racial profiling ect. I know that Jesse Jacskon is just in it for the fame. He was there in the '60's. I met him in Mississippi. He knows how bad it was. Now, not only does the law protect people of color, but our children's generation see each other for who they are, not their skin color. Is there still racism? Sure. As long as there are stupid people there will be racism. But today is so different. Every opportunity is out there for people of color, just as it is for white people. It is those people who make their living stirring up conspiracy theories and perpetuating a false overblown belief in overt racism like Jackson and Sharpton that continue to make us view each other by the color of our skin instead content of our character.
Have you ever noticed that it is always conservatives that use that quote from Dr. Marin Luther King, not the liberals?

Update on Gonzales hearings today. via Reuters. Democrats continue to act like jerks, case in point: (Leahy referring to the Abu Ghraib scandal)
"Those abuses serve as recruiting posters for the terrorists," said Sen. Patrick Leahy.
Yeah, the local barber in Iran saw those photos and ran to sign up with Osama. Please Mr. Leahy, most of the magazines in your home offend these guys. Your wife showing her face and hair offends these guys. Our movies make these guys NUTS! We are evil to them, do you get that? The prison photos made everyone sick, except the terrorists, whose idea of going easy on their prisoners is what happened at Abu Ghriab.
By the way, the ghosts of the horrors perpetuated at Abu Ghraib under Saddam laugh at our scandal that looks to them a day at the park comparing what they went through.
Besides, the Abu Ghriab scandal had nothing to do with Gonzales. The much talked about memo didn't either. Geeze.
But the ever blowhard Leahy continues:
"America's troops and citizens are at greater risk because of those actions," said Leahy, the Judiciary Committee's top Democrat. "The searing photographs from Abu Ghraib (prison in Iraq) have made it harder to create and maintain the alliances we need to prevail."
You mean the searing photos where the soldiers involved were already being taken care of by the military when the media decided to have a heyday with them and show them every five minutes??? Or Maybe it was the left's need to give the impression that this was widespread instead of an isolated incident involving a tiny tiny portion of the military. Maybe that had more to do with any problems we might have because of this with allies.
The Dems are trying their best to make it seem as if Gonzales somehow condoned the torture at Abu Ghraib, not because they think he won't be confirmed to AG or even because they believe that, but to have it be out there in case Gonzales is ever to be confirmed to the Supreme Court. This dog and pony show is all about that my friends, make no mistake about it.
So this left Gonzales having to state THE OBVIOUS:
"At the packed hearing, Gonzales denounced torture and vowed, if confirmed, to abide by international treaties."
"Let me say, Senator, that as a human being I am sickened and outraged by those photos," Gonzales said.
This was the main 'concern' of Leahy and other democrats:
"Many of the questions focused on Gonzales' January 2002 memo on how the Geneva Conventions should not apply to Taliban and al Qaeda prisoners captured during the Afghanistan conflict."
Leave it to a Texan to state the obvious:
"Sen. John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, introduced Gonzales, a former Texas Supreme Court Justice, at the hearing, saying: "Now, I hate to ruin a good story for the president's political opponents. But there is one important problem with this criticism: Judge Gonzales is right."
And leave it to Leahy the jerk to take a final cheap shot:
"After several hours of questioning, Leahy asked Gonzales if he had made any mistakes in the war on terror?
"I'll be the first to admit I'm not perfect and I make mistakes," Gonzales said.
"Glory hallelujah," Leahy said. "You're the first one in the administration that said that."
Wonder how long it's been since Leahy uttered those words, "Glory hallelujah."........Probably a first.

Diane Sawyer gives us a surprisingly beautiful and haunting account of her journey through the ravages of the tsunami.
A small group of Democrats agreed Thursday to force House and Senate debates on Election Day problems in Ohio before letting Congress certify President Bush's win over Sen. John Kerry in November.
Bush won an Ohio recount by more than 118,000 votes, and won nationally by more than 3 million. But that won't stop them, because this really isn't about who won. They know who won. Fair and Square. This is about having the notion put out there that there was some kind of fraud going on by the Republicans. Democrats want the vast uniformed to just hear that they are "fighting for each and every vote to count." So that they can sound like they are the ones who care about the "disenfranchised." They want it put in the American people's mind that the national election was somehow rigged. I hear from my 28 yr old black friend from harlem online that their community already believes that. This is just another sick way for the democrats to try and assure that the black community stay in their camp.
It truly makes me want to puke.
Alberto Gonzales faces Congress today to become the nation's first Hispanic attorney general. The liberals are having fits, I am sure. How can they demean and degrade this man when he is Hispanic? 44% of Hispanics went for Bush this time around, the democrats know they have to tread lightly. Hispanics are not going to be listening intently on the spin of the democrats on why this well qualified man should not be attorney general. They will especially not see that treating terror suspects badly (although within the law) as a bad thing. As opposed to cutting off heads, like the terrorists do, we look like Mary Poppins no matter how they spin it. Hispanics will only see that the democrats went against him.
This is kind of fun to watch.

My oldest son thinks this is the best site on the internet....oh boy. Be warned, this guy is a funny Howard Stern type. Here's an excerpt from his "11 worst songs of 2004" post, *edited by me* but still funny:
"4. Love And Peace Or Else by U2
If there was a list of things a pacifist should never say, "or else" would probably top it. Everything about this song is stupid. Love and peace or else? Or else what, you pu**ies? What are you going to do about it? Sing another crybaby song for your crybaby fans? Tough sh*t b*tches, war kicks ass."
That is pretty funny. When will people realize that things CAN be funny without using cuss words. He quotes Bono and gives his take on the quote:
"This quote epitomizes U2's pious, holier-than-thou attitude:"
"I don't know why, but we always had this belief that there was something sacred about our music, that it was almost holy."
-Bono, pompous assh*le and lead singer of U2"
Heh.
I like his "Tribute To Real Men." Read it.
mASS BACKWARDS thinks maybe the Thai government has it's priorities mixed up. I agree.

Crouching Tiger, Flying Conservative
Protein Wisdom brings us this excerpt from comedian Margaret Cho's blog:
"How could I hope to be myself, with my uncomplicated child’s face and funny monkey mind when I could never live in the dream world presented to me on the screen? Nobody understands this, when I express it, because there are sci- fi and fantasy films all over the place, and most people don’t come away from “Battlefield Earth” thinking, “Am I here?”
We don’t see Asians in film unless they have super powers, and I certainly don’t have them, so where does that leave this erstwhile actor? Even with all the digital effects, it still wouldn’t work. I am clumsy with a death wish. Yesterday, I was in the backyard and I fell from a height of approximately one inch and I am practically bleeding internally. I see Asians flying with their daggers and I feel as if I am hurtling toward extinction at the speed of light. With the growing death toll of the fearsome Asian tsunami and the popularity of films like [House of the Flying Daggers], I feel as if Asia, not only the continent, but the global community of Asia is on the verge of collapse. There is nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, nowhere to fly."
Makes you just want to weep, doesn't it? All Asians are protrayed with super powers. Try looking for conservatives onscreen Ms. Cho. When they are there they are protrayed as rich hypocritical homophobic sexual perverts.
I'll take the super powers any day.

Remember when I said I thought the animals in SE Asia had a 6th sense about the coming tsunami. Well, here is why.
Here is an excerpt from an interview with democratic minority leader Nancy Pelosi and her husband Paul on the Today show with Jamie Gangel interviewing. I think she caught Nancy's husband off guard here. What do you think?
Gangel: What's it like being married to the minority leader?
Paul Pelosi: What's it like?
Pelosi: I'm interested in hearing this answer myself. (In other words.."watch it buddy......and you get to live to see another day.")
Paul Pelosi: It's an extremely demanding job. So it hasn't been a lot of laughs.
Gangel: Honest. An honest man.
When a political spouse is caught off guard in an interview, you can bet it is honest. They are not as used to making political spin.
I can't imagine what the poor man's life is like. I can only stand about 2 minutes of her exaggerated spin before I have to turn off the TV or radio. She doesn't just spin, she blows spin out of the water.
So I figure this is what a day in the life Mr. Pelosi is like.
*Nancy enters the house and notices a shirt on the floor. She walks in the kitchen and a coffee cup and plate sit used on the counter. Her husband Paul sits reading the paper.*
Nancy-Oh My God!! What the hell happened here???!!!
Paul-What? What?
Nancy- The living room looks like a damn redneck lives here!!! There are clothes strewn all over the floor!!!!
Paul- I hardly think one shirt....
Nancy- DON'T YOU DARE INTERRUPT ME ,YOU PIG!!! ... AND I THINK I saw some dirt by the front door, possibly from shoes because SOMEONE didn't care enough to take them off at the front door as instructed! This is what causes deficits!!...I mean.... difficulty in keeping things clean!! CLEAN!! DO YOU HEAR ME??? NO ONE LISTENS TO ME!! Look at this mess in the kitchen!! It looks like a Frat house party went on here!!!!!
Paul- It's one cup and plate, for heaven's sa......
Nancy- SHUTUP!!!!! I think I know what a mess is! I am the leader of the Democrats in Congress. I KNOW WHAT A MESS IS!!!!!!!!!!!
Paul- Nancy, calm down....your face might split. Remember the day after the election? It almost happened and Dr. Pullcheeks said to never get that upset again...
*Nancy's hands fly to her face*
Nancy- Your right, of course. Are my eyes still open wide like a startled clown? Youthful and Surprised. That was the name of the look I chose from Dr. Pull cheeks, you know.
Paul- Yes dear, you look fine. I'll go get the shirt and pick up the plate and cup. You go take your meds and lie down, ok?
Nancy- alright...alright. If Howard Dean calls come and get me. We are trying to figure out how to rule the world and distribute everyone's wealth but our own of course.....uhh...I mean get the democrats back in power.
Paule- Yes dear.
*Paul hangs his head in utter dispair as he trudges out of the room*
Here is her future dream:
Gangel: If you could have one political wish come true for your career, what would it be?
Pelosi: I'd want the Democrats in the House of Representatives to be the majority. And then my colleagues would elect me speaker of the House. I would become the first woman speaker. That certainly would be very exciting.
God forbid.

Blog Readership Surges in 2004
The Pew Internet & American Life Project released a study this week that showed that blog readership in 2004 increased by 58%, with 6 million Americans getting news and information fed to them through RSS aggregators. The same study shows that there are over 8 million people creating web-based logs or diaries. However, the same study shows that 62% of online Americans do not know what a blog is. Blogs are online diaries or where Internet users posts their opinions, thoughts, observations, or whatever else they like to the world. The Pew Internet & American Life Project is a non-profit that studies the social impact of the Internet.

I'm wondering how we can get those 62% of online Americans to become aware of blogs. Any ideas?
I am amazed there are 8 million plus of us. It will be interesting to see how we evolve.

"The militant group of Jordanian terrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, Al-Qaida in Iraq, claimed responsibility for killing Gov. Ali al-Haidari and his bodyguards." via ABC News
A website carrying claims of the killing also said this:
"We tell every traitor and supporter of the Jews and Christians that this is your fate."
I realize that America is tiring of these attacks. Who is not sick of the death and destruction these terrorists leave behind? But it is for this very reason that we must prevail. We can not only let these people win in any way, but we also cannot send a message to anyone that this is the way to intimidate people. It is more important now more than ever that the election in Iraq go forward as planned. I know there is a concern from the Sunni's about they being able to vote. I don't care if we have to go to them and let them vote in their home, it needs to be done.
Luckily, Fareed Ayar, a spokesman for Iraq's Independent Electoral Commission, seems adamant that there be no delay.

Blacks and the ghetto and gay issue
Comedian Bill Cosby continued his one-man crusade to improve the futures of young African-Americans talking to America's black community like this and this.
Earlier in the year Cosby fired away at low-income blacks for spending $500 on their children's shoes but not spending $250 on educational tools such as "Hooked on Phonics."
Criticizing African-Americans for wearing saggy pants, speaking improper English and giving children names like "Shaniqua, Shaligua, Mohammed and all that crap," he said, "I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange [prison] suit," he said in May. "Where were you when he was 2? Where were you when he was 12? Where were you when he was 18, and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol? And where is the father? ... You can't keep saying that God will find a way. God is tired of you."
Cosby received a lot of heat for those words. People were telling him he sounded like rightwing white people. Well, yeah...that's right. That is what we have been saying for a long time because it is true. If it takes a respected black man to get people to listen then more power to him. Cosby was quoted as saying, "I don't care what rightwing white people say." Good. I don't want him to care about what anyone says as long as he is spreading the message of discipline, education, and values to young black Americans in the inner city who so need it.
In his remarks around the country Cosby had this to say:
Cosby asked: "Do you see in that yard any drug dealers? Do you see any teenage pregnant girls? Take a look at them, and put the future on them. Without love, education and care, they begin to look like the statistics. ... You cannot tell me it's impossible to put your children in first place and raise your child strong."
Cosby concluded: "It's a movement now that needs to happen. ... It's time for people to just stop seeing themselves so much as victims, so much in poverty, and realize what education does and fight for it like you're fighting for your life and you are because that's what our children are."
Arlene Ackerman, the San Francisco's first black superintendent of schools, told the Chronicle she was glad Cosby had aired his frustrations, even if they were not politically correct.
"We haven't figured out a way to talk about it as African-Americans. ... At least now we're talking about it," she said. "The truth is, many of the things he said are reality for those of us who work in urban public schools."
On a related note, eleven percent of African American voters supported President Bush in the election, up from nine percent in 2000. That is a promising increase for Republicans. I hope that it is wall that we have broken through and will continue to see increases in African American support. Many were saying that the evangelical black church's came out for Bush. I wondered about that.
My black friends are upper middle class and supported Bush. I wanted the opinion of someone in the lower income bracket. I had an opportunity the other day. I was having my car worked on at the dealership and they sent a car to come get me. The black man driving had a black gospel station on the radio. We had about a 20 minute ride, so being the shy person I am, I asked him if he attended a black church regularly and thought of himself as a devout Christian. He said yes. I asked him how the black gospel stations handled the election. Did they endorse anyone? He said he thought they had been pretty fair in presenting both sides. I asked him if he minded if I inquired how he voted. He said he had voted for Bush and it was the first time he had ever voted Republican. I asked him why. He said it really came down to the gay marriage issue and believing that Bush was a man of God. He said the whole gay thing was like Sodom and Gomorah. It was just wrong and he didn't believe that Kerry was really against it. I asked him if he thought abortion was wrong as well. He said yes. I asked, "So, if the gay marriage thing is immoral and that is why you felt you had to vote for Bush, why hasn't the abortion issue bothered you enough to vote Republican before?" He answered, "I don't know really." I apologized for quizzing him and he said no problem, he was enjoying it. So I said. "Doesn't your pastor ever address the abortion issue?" and he said "No. Not that I have ever noticed. I think that is something we just don't want to talk about."
I found that very interesting. I still don't understand why gay marriage, which is a between 2 adults and does not actually hurt anyone, bothers him more than the destruction of innocent life. I am not defending gay marriage, I am just saying that in my view, weighing the the right and wrong of it, the killing of an unborn child just seems worst to me. Yet that is not the issue that concerned most Christian black voters. It was the gay issue. That does spell trouble for the democratic party because that issue is not going away and more and more blacks will be bothered by the democratic embrace of it.
Consider this... In Ohio 61 percent of African-Americans supported a ban on gay marriage and Bush won 16 percent of the African-American vote in Ohio and 13 percent in Florida -- significant showings for a Republican.
What do yall think?

The children are fighting.
That would be the democrats. What will be the future of the democratic party? the MoveOn.org types or the Joe Lieberman types? The article is interesting to me in 2 ways. One is that no social issues are mentioned. The democrats are going to have the face the fact that they are too extreme on most social issues. Second, the article had this to say about Bill Clinton quoting David Sirota, an aggressive young party operative, writing in the American Prospect and the Nation.
"...Sirota also criticized Bill Clinton, whose "New Democrat" agenda was heavily influenced by the council's thinking. Clinton's "embrace of a big-business agenda arguably did as much long-term damage to the Democratic Party's moral platform as any of [his] … sex scandals or the battles over social issues," Sirota wrote."
The article also says this:
"During the 1990s, many liberals felt that Clinton abandoned class-conscious themes by supporting the North American Free Trade Agreement and a balanced federal budget."
So the question I have to ask is this, why is Bill and Hillary Clinton still the stars of the democratic party? No one can bring in more of a crowd or more money than these two. If the democrats feel that the Clinton team was not liberal enough then, my Republican friends, we have no worries. The democratic party is completely lost.

Things of Interest after the Tsunami Disaster.
In Bando Aceh Indonesia wardens released inmates at the main jail minutes before it was flooded in the tsunami disaster, but their fate remains unknown. If they lived, I think they just got a get out of jail free card.
Tourists were sunbathing next to Patong Beach, Thailand just 4 days after the tsunmani hit the area. I read an interview by a man flying there on a pre-booked vacation and he said the plane was near empty. He said that the hotel had called him and told him they were up and running and the damage was not bad there so please come, so he did. I know they need the tourist dollars, but something is just wrong with that picture.
I heard a couple of reporters say that very few dead animals have been found. They say that it could be an animal's 6th sense about these things and they went to higher ground early on. My ever practical son says that is ridiculous and that the animals were just able to outrun it. Sorry son, I go with the 6th sense thing.
On a related note, in Sri Lanka, the Elephant orphanage (one of the tourist spots in the country) stays open because it received no damage and the elephants are fine. Hmmm......
This will be the World's largest relief effort ever. Nonwithstanding the governments across the globe's relief money, the generosity of private donations is staggering. It warms the heart to see us reach out across these many lands and give to help those we will never meet. Amid the chaos of the war and the many conflicts across the world, we still are able to care without asking to who the money and help goes to as long as it reaches the victims. No matter their religion, their race, their country, we give unconditionally revealing the best of mankind, revealing the heart of kindness that still beats in the world today.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Here is my personal year in review:
1) Once again I managed not to kill my teenagers, a feat I am proud of every year.
2) Managed to go to the beach twice. My favorite place in the entire world. Any beach, anytime.
3) Sent my 17 yr son off with his Aunt and Uncle for mountain climbing and kayaking in Seattle and didn't worry for one minute. A major accomplishment for a worryaohlic like myself.
4) Going on 12 yrs of watching little league baseball, I still get excited watching my little guys play. It doesn't hurt that my 3rd son is as talented as they get and won the MVP award. *bragging moment*
5) I finally got the car I have always wanted. Not going to say what it is because I already bragged once.
6) I got around to visiting the entire family across the south and lived to tell about it.
7) Managed not to get into such a rage over the election process mainly because I didn't watch the mainstream news.
8) Managed not to paint a room in the house or buy or rearrange furniture. I am addicted to decorating, so that was an accomplishment as well.
9) I started a blog (as you can see) and learned how to delve into the template myself. In the process have gotten to know some wonderful people online and LOVE to read the blogs.
10) Got less done around the house than anytime before because of said blog and blog reading. Now I hear my one of my kids say "Where is mom?" and another answer, "She is in blogworld."
Well there it is, not too exciting, but it's all I got.
Hope everyone has a wonderful and blessed new year! Here's to 2005!!!!!

This is the kind of news I would like to hear more of:
BAGHDAD, Iraq Dec 30, 2004 — "American troops and warplanes killed at least 25 insurgents as they attacked a U.S. outpost in Mosul with a car bomb and explosives, the military said Thursday." Read the whole article at ABC News
The Weekly Standard has this article about Sid Blumenthal reporting in Salon. It is hilarious! Did you hear about Bush's remark that a submarine could take the Clinton Library out? You didn't? Well, that's because the rightwing media has won my dears. *wink*
Ross Douthat of The Weekly Standard also tells us of the the new left wing co- blogging of those elites who are trying so hard to get all of us who are such idiots to vote conservative to see the light.
"OF ALL THE LEFT-wing responses to Bush's reelection--the crying jags, the applications for Canadian citizenship, the bulk orders of Nicholson Baker's Checkpoint--perhaps the strangest of all can be found online at left2right.typepad.com, where a roster of academic all-stars have embarked on a mission to save American liberalism, one blog post at a time. There was no shortage of volunteers for the job: Left2Right, as the site is dubbed, boasts an astonishing 26 co-bloggers, representing 19 American universities and including such luminaries as Princeton's Kwame Anthony Appiah and Stanford's Richard Rorty (who has not yet, alas, contributed a post)."
Douthat quotes Princeton's K. Anthony Appiah regarding why so many GOP-voting types seem to resent academic elites:
"Some of those right-wing evangelicals apparently care whether or not we have a good opinion of them. (If they didn't, the resentment they display toward the "liberal media" would make no sense.) Whereas I know no one among the liberal media elite or among liberal academics who cares very much that many right-wing evangelicals have contempt for us. We care how they vote--for instrumental reasons; we may even care that they are mistaken, for their sakes; but we don't feel diminished by their contempt. . . . (The situation is analogous to the one that obtains with respect to social respect in class-and status-based hierarchies: a peasant can spit when milord walks by, but it won't damage his lordship's self-esteem. But when milord brings his handkerchief to his nose as the peasant approaches, the peasant is stung.)"
"It's just an analogy, right? It's not as if Appiah is saying that evangelicals actually are peasants, and that he and his co bloggers are noblemen, is it?"
Need I say more? I think not. Douthat continues:
"Consider the post in which Jeff McMahan, professor of ethics and political philosophy at Rutgers, seems to discover "support our troops" bumper stickers for the first time:
"Vehicles in New Jersey are covered with decals representing little ribbons inscribed with the legend: "Support Our Troops." I have done a lot of driving recently and have noticed geographical disparities in the distribution of these symbols. . . . They are also disproportionately displayed on SUVs and vans, which isn't surprising given that the owners are disproportionately reliant on the oil supplies that our soldiers are in Iraq to protect (among their other purposes). . . . What is it exactly that these decals exhort us to do? How can I, or anyone, support the troops themselves? What can we possibly do for them? It seems that the message is really an exhortation to support the war."
How do we support the our troops??? Hmmm.. Let see. Perhaps someone should notify the professor that are about a hundred or more websites and blogs (especially the Milblogs! Which I would bet he knows nothing about) that have links on how to send everything from goodie boxes to helping pay for extra body wear to sending donations to the famlies of those with wounded soldiers to sending candy bags for the soldiers to give out to Iraqi children. I am sure you all reading this could give me dozens of more examples on how to 'support our troops."
It is sad really that these "anointed" do not see how smug and self righteous they sound. And this is when they are trying to reach out to us!!! Imagine what they say in the candle lit rooms of the faculty parties.

Surfing the blogs, here are some interesting posts.
Jim Treacher finds a site that gives us the first time the word "blog" was used.
Beautiful Atrocities gives us tips on avoiding marrying a terrorist.
Fuzz Martin gives us his first fathering lesson. Awww... it's so sweet to see such innocence. I bet the baby seems innocent too.....;-)
Sean Gleeson has a shocking discovery about our martian rovers.
Patterico's Pontifications gives us the story on Iraq the Model blog.
RWN's Top 25 Favorite Ann Coulter Quotes.
My advice? Don't ever get SondraK mad.
Carnivorous Conservative gives us that "Pretty Woman" type of streetwalker. With that heart of gold and all.
I'm off to unpack. The VERY worst thing about traveling. But then a nice hot bath with all the bath and body works stuff I got for Christmas will make it all better.
I'll then go to sleep. Someone wake me up when it is 85 degrees again.

Internet pervs beware! That slutty talking 14 yr old chatting with you in a chat room could be a member of "Perverted Justice," and they are a growing group of 27 clandestine "contributors" and thousands of other unnamed volunteers, who claim to monitor chat rooms across the country. The targets are "wannabe pedophiles."
This article tells the tale of a firefighter:
"Ryan Hogan, is fighting federal charges that he attempted to entice a minor under 15 into having sex with him and exchanged obscene material over the Internet. His trial is to begin early next year. If convicted of all charges, he could be sentenced to a fine of up to $250,000 and a term of five to 30 years in prison."
This is the scariest quote out of the article:
".. studies show that about one in five children receives an unwanted sexual solicitation on the Web. Of those children who receive unwanted sexual solicitations, only about one-fourth tell their parents, according to the group."
Ryan says his actions were just "fantasy." (He performed a lewd act on the web camera for the "14 yr old girl", who happened to be a 30 yr old man)
Sorry buddy, fantasies are for the grownups. I hope he gets the maximum sentence. These pervs have got to start realizing that our kids are off limits. Period.

The Tsunami disaster is so enormous I just cannot wrap my mind around the number of people dead. It seems the first wave hit India within 90 minutes of the earthquake. With the total dead starting to reach 100,000 people it is just unbelievable. The Amazon relief page (through the Red Cross) is here if you would like to help. h/t to wonderduck for site. As of right now the total giving there is $2,683,389.97. Which just goes to show you that the United Nations official's suggestion that the West has been "stingy" is just one example of the total ignorance of what the U.S. does for the world. The official has backed down on his statement though. Read about that here.
Mona Charen gives some reasons why some people believe that we are greedy. She relates a NY Times story about world food aid. "U.S. cutting food aid that is aimed at self-sufficiency" read the headline. No where in the piece, Charen goes on to say, does the story report that the United States is the world's largest food aid donor by far. According to Charen:
"In 2004, the United States provided $826,469,172 — almost a billion dollars — to the United Nations World Food Program. The next largest donor, the European Union, contributed $187,102,068. This, even though the European Union has a total population of 453 million, compared with the United States' 281 million, and a larger gross domestic product than the U.S."
In this Tsunami disaster relief other big donors besides the United States and Australia include Japan ($30 million), Canada ($4 million), Kuwait ($2 million), Germany ($3 million), Netherlands ($2 million) and the European Union, which could release as much as $45 million.
Try and take a moment today to pray for those hurting from this disaster. Give if you can. Catholic Relief Services is also a good place to donate.

My BIL let his computer on so I am checking in for a quick hello!! Christmas WAS FUN Mr. Digger! It is crazy to get on the road right after and get with 22 family members (14 children) I have 5 SIL's here and what did they want to do right after Christmas??? SHOP!!!! I am one of those rare women who hate to shop to begin with, but especially so after shopping for Christmas these last few weeks, so I sit here quietly with this computer while the guys are smoking cigars outside and the younger kids are playing upstairs.
We will be visiting friends and be back on Wed. I haven't been watching the news, but I did hear on the radio about the terrible tragedy in Thailand and surrounding areas. Such an awful thing. When I get back I will link to some help sites that I know are probably already set up.
I hope everyone had a good Christmas. Despite what seems like the fight to ban Christmas, I don't think it will ever work. No matter what religion or no religion you are, Christmas is a special time that is sewn into the fabric of our society and everyone seems to enjoy it, for the most part anyway.
I have 2 kids in private Christian schools and 2 kids in public schools and naturally the Christian schools were delightful during the Holidays. (one Catholic and one Lutheran) The Christian schools had wonderful programs and choirs and displays. It just made you really get into the Christmas spirit. The public schools, by comparison seemed dull. But they kinda have to be by law. I think I have mentioned before that on my cul- de- sac we have a "we are the world" feeling. Everything from Catholic, Muslim, Baptist, evangelical, Jew, and Buddhist. Even the Buddhist family give gifts on Christmas morning. I give a little something homemade to them all. To me it is also about celebrating the faith of our forefathers. It is about celebrating the freedom to have faith, whatever faith that may be. I think there are very few people out there that feel they are being 'discriminated' against at Christmas when they are not Christians. I think that is a exaggerated myth perpetuated by the ACLU so they can make money and get attention.
One of the comforts of getting with family is hearing their stories and knowing your teenagers aren't the only ones doing stupid things on a daily basis. It is nice to know you aren't the only one seriously considering locking a child in their room for a few years, sliding food through a slot in the door along with homeschool materials just to get through puberty.
After Christmas I am ready for Spring, so Jan. and Feb. are really a bother to me. Why can't we just go straight to March?
Well, I will see yall in a couple of days. Stay warm whever you are!

It's Almost Christmas!!!!!!!
Christmas was always wonderful for me growing up. We lived about 20 minutes from my Grandma, who was the best grandma ever and we would spend Christmas eve over there with my aunt and uncle, who were very young. Only like 10 yrs older than us. And they were a lot of fun.
My Grandma had a HUGE painted Santa made out of plywood sitting on her roof. She made a big deal out of who got to say "Christmas Eve Gift!" first. I don't know where that came from or why we did it, but she always let us win. The first thing she said when she saw us was, "How sweet it is!" She had a way of making me feel like a queen. She thought every move I made was special. Every child should have someone like that in their life.
Anyway, we would have a big dinner and me and my brothers would be dying to go open our gifts under the tree, so my Dad would make a big deal out of needing another cup of coffee or dessert, and just when we were about to burst he would let us all go into the living room to open gifts. We all had to open one at a time around the room, which I still do with my kids, because it makes the anticipation special and you get to actually see the other's gifts.
After that we would go home to sleep, waiting for Santa. My parents never wrapped the gifts. So we just ran in and started playing. I think after Grandma's it was just as well. One of the best Christmas mornings I remember (I probably remember it well because we have it on film) is when my brothers were 15 and 13 and I was 10. My mom opens the door to the living room and my oldest brother runs in with my other brother right after them and I crash into them both because they had stopped dead still in the doorway when they saw what was by the Christmas tree. 2 dirtbikes!!!!! The look on their faces is truly priceless. It was a mixture of pure joy and unbelief. I know my Dad must have loved watching that home movie. I know I still do. When I finally made my way around them I screamed for them! (I got a TV, so I was happy too) I also almost killed myself on one of the dirtbikes later that year, but that is another story.
I am crazy about Christmas and love to decorate. My traditions are Christmas Eve Mass, then a candlelight dinner with Christmas music in the dining room with the nice crystal and china. The kids get to drink eggnog out of the wine glasses. After dinner they get to open the gifts they got for each other, and we read the Christmas story from one of the Gospels, and it is off to bed. It sounds very perfect, but it rarely is. Someone usually spills their eggnog or I can't find one of their gifts, or the dog runs off with someone's toy, but we get through it with humor and thats all that matters.
We always leave the cookies and milk for Santa and some carrots outside for the Reindeer. So after the kids go to sleep, we always move the decorative grate from the fireplace and make bootprints with a little ash coming from the chimney. Before going to bed I always have to eat some of the cookies, drain the milk and leave a few bitten off carrots out in the yard. (Yes, I am insane) My oldest believed in Santa until he was 11, which I think is a record. Now I just have one who still believes and it will break my heart when he stops. I know a lot of people don't do Santa, but I have such exciting memories of the thrill and magic of listening for the slieghbells and I don't remember being crushed or anything when I found out it wasn't true. So I wanted my kids to experience that as well. Plus I do tell them the true story of Saint Nicholaus, who was a Bishop of the Church in the 4th century in Turkey known for giving gifts to children on Christmas eve and (a little known fact) he would pay dowries for young women whose families couldn't afford them. I have always sorta weaved in a story about the "spirit of St. Nick" that goes into our make believe Santa of today.
So there it is. My Christmas experiences. I love Christmas and you can see why. After Christmas we will be visiting my kid's 10 cousins (on Daddy's side) with their Aunts and Uncles and Mimi and Pops. It will be crazy and loud and fun as always. So I will be gone for a while. They are even saying there may be snow here! That would be so awesome!!!! A white Christmas in Houston!!! A first!!
Thank you for reading my blog. Thanks for your comments. I truly enjoy it so much. I have learned a lot from all of you even in the short time I have been blogging.
I wish you all a most blessed Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

Sean Gleeson's blog today gives us new "blogisms."
For example:
blogracious - 1. (adj.) Showing courtesy, patience, or mercy towards fellow bloggers or commenters who willfully or inadvertently transgress blog etiquette. Example: "Sean left three off-topic links in my comments today, but I try to be blogracious about such things." h/t Jeff.
May I add "bloglicious." And do I really need to define it?
Sean also blogs today on everything you need to know about Rumsfield's "autopen scandal!"

Waiting to get my hair cut yesterday I was thumbing through "Glamour" magazine, which has to be the filthiest, pro-abortion, pro-liberal, pro-everything wrong with our society magazine I have ever read that pretends to be a mainstream beauty magazine. As I was about to throw it down in disgust, I noticed an item about Afghanistan women. The piece started with this line: "No matter how you feel about the U.S. election, you have to feel good about women being able to vote in Afghanistan." Followed by quotes from Afghan women who were so excited about voting for the first time. The implication of the first line was, of course, how awful the election in the U.S. turned out to be, and then ignore the fact that the afghan women would not have gotten to vote if not for President Bush.
The freedom the Afghan women (and men for that matter) are experiencing for the first time is historical and if it had been a democratic President responsible for it, all these magazines would have Afghan women on their covers. I can guarantee you that.
It is interesting reading the message boards of the news agencies. Every attack brings new critics. Why are we over there? What are we doing there?
The attack on our soldiers was horrible and I pray every day for the safety of our soldiers, but this is war and bad things happen. Many liberals seem to think that we can somehow get through this without injury or death. Actually we could, but they wouldn't want that either.
I have started reading Karen Hughe's book "Ten Minutes From Normal," which is excellent so far, but one thing she said at the beginning really strikes true and is at the heart of what we are doing in Iraq. She said as long as there are children being raised to hate Americans we will be in danger. If we leave the middle east before democracy can be estasblished, then children will continue to be sent off to terrorist training camps at 9 yrs old and our children will be even in more danger when they grow up.
What we do now is critical to the future of freedom in the world. It is really that simple.
One poster on the message board said that you cannot "impose" democracy on people not ready for it. What??? When are people not ready for freedom?? Perhaps we should never have fought for our democracy here. George Washington would have told you that was not a pretty war either.
As the saying goes "Freedom is never free." There is a price to pay. Thank God we have men and women willing to fight that fight for us.
Christ said that the greatest love a man can show is to give his life for another.
Our soldiers put their life on the line every day for others. That is why we love them. That is why we understand that at the very heart of freedom is their willing sacrifice.

The Sands of Christmas
by Michael Marks
I had no Christmas spirit when I breathed a weary sigh,
And looked across the table where the bills were piled too high.
The laundry wasn't finished and the car I had to fix,
My stocks were down another point, the Dolphins lost by six.
And so with only minutes till my son got home from school
I gave up on the drudgery and grabbed a wooden stool.
The burdens that I carried were about all I could take,
And so I flipped the TV on to catch a little break.
I came upon a desert scene in shades of tan and rust,
No snowflakes hung upon the wind, just clouds of swirling dust.
And where the reindeer should have stood before a laden sleigh,
Eight Hummers ran a column right behind an M1A.
A group of boys walked past the tank, not one was past his teens.
Their eyes were hard as polished flint, their faces drawn and lean.
They walked the street in armor with their rifles shouldered tight,
Their dearest wish for Christmas, just to have a silent night.
Other soldiers gathered, hunkered down against the wind,
To share a scrap of mail and dreams of going home again.
There wasn't much at all to put their lonely hearts at ease,
They had no Christmas turkey, just a pack of MREs.
They didn't have a garland or a stocking I could see,
They didn't need an ornament-- they lacked a Christmas Tree.
They didn't have a present even though it was tradition,
the only boxes I could see were labeled "ammunition."
I felt a little tug and found my son now by my side,
He asked me what it was I feared, and why it was I cried.
I swept him up into my arms and held him oh so near
and kissed him on the forehead as I whispered in his ear.
There's nothing wrong my little son, for safe we sleep tonight,
Our heroes stand on foreign land to give us all the right,
To worry on the things in life that mean nothing at all,
Instead of wondering if we will be the next to fall.
He looked at me as children do and said its always right,
to thank the ones who help us and perhaps that we should write.
And so we pushed aside the bills and sat to draft a note,
to thank the many far from home, and this is what we wrote:
God Bless You all and keep you safe, and speed your way back home.
Remember that we love you so, and that you're not alone.
The gift you give you share with all, a present every day,
You give the gift of liberty and that we can't repay.
Pray for Our Troops and Peace in the Middle East.

Ah, the progression of porn. Let's give our children even more access to it. It's a sick world, aint it? *Coming soon to a town near you*
And you can have music with your perversion.
In Search Of Christmas by John Leo. It tells you all you need to know about the continued assault on Christmas. Even Hanukkah gets kicked around this season.
This is my idea. Since Christmas is a Christian holiday then why should government workers get the day off? Where IS the ACLU??? Let them make government workers work that day and sit back and listen to the howling.
Rolling Stone says 2004 wasn't our best year with the war and all, but a few stars shone through. Here are their picks. Oh yeah, these people really shine, like grease on a pig.
Who are you going to believe about Iraq? This guy? or this guy? You read. You decide.
Quote of the day:
"Men are like fine wine. They start as grapes, and it's up to the women to stomp the crap out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with."

The excellent Iraqi blog Iraqi The Model has this curious post from yesterday as his last:
"This is the last time I write in this blog and I just want to say, goodbye. It's not an easy thing to do for me, but I know I should do it. I haven't told my brothers with my decision, as they are not here yet, but it won't change anything and I just can't keep doing this anymore. My stand regarding America has never changed. I still love America and feel grateful to all those who helped us get our freedom and are still helping us establishing democracy in our country. But it's the act of some Americans that made me feel I'm on the wrong side here. I will expose these people in public very soon and I won't lack the mean to do this, but I won't do it here as this is not my blog. At any rate, it's been a great experience and a pleasure to know all the regular readers of this blog, as I do feel I know you, and I owe you a lot.Best wishes to all of you, those who supported us and those who criticized us as well.
Yours sincerely, Ali." Via 2slick
I don't know what to think. It is very strange. I wish we could get the whole story. Maybe we will soon. I hope and pray he is alright. I don't have a good feeling about it though.

Moyer's Madness
I got away from everything this weekend and was determined NOT to watch or listen to the news or get on the internet. I accomplished it pretty well until I happen to be flipping through the channels and came upon Bill Moyer's last appearance on his PBS show "Now." I had never watched the show, but I have seen Bill Moyers before and knew he was very liberal. I tried really hard not to watch it because I promised myself I would watch movies (which I never get to do) and relax. But as soon as Moyers began by speaking of a 'rightwing media headed up by Fox News." Well, I was stuck. This I had to watch.
To sum it up for you, Moyers basically said that the rightwing conspiracy Hillary talked about it is real and growing like nasty green mold on the walls of our democracy. He spoke of the "outright lies" of the rightwing media. He gave 2 examples, which I will get to in a moment. He had several guests to prove his point including David Brock, the recovering gay Republican (recovering from being a Republican, not from being gay) and Anthony Romero, Executive Director of the ALCU.
Ironically Moyers began his program with an outright lie and took it to the end. First he called Sean Hannity of Fox News an "anchor." A total lie. As we all know, Hannity is a partisan commentator and has a liberal counterpart on the show, Allan Colmes, which Moyers conveniently never mentions.
Brit Hulme, Chris Wallace, and Shepard Smith are "anchors." They give us the hard news, the "fair and balanced" news. Moyers was obviously not able to come up with any indication of those anchors being partisan though, so he used Hannity to make it look as if he were an anchor. This wasn't a small mistake either. It was deliberate. He put clips of Brit Hulme and Sean Hannity side by side. Then he goes on to show Hannity on his tour before the election being all "partisan." As if it were like Peter Jennings going out before audiences and telling people to vote for Kerry before the election.
It floored me that Bill Moyers was doing EXACTLY what he was accusing Fox News of doing, distorting the story to make it look a certain way. So I made popcorn and settled in for "Night of the Living Dead Democrats."
One of the "outright lies" that Moyers came up with in the show was the Swiftboat ad controversy. He claimed that while Fox News jumped on the story, the other news organizations waited so they could "get the facts." (oh well, that explains it then) Moyers said that the swiftboat guys were lying because all the military papers supported Kerry's version and to top it off, a rich republican funded the ads. He failed to mention that the 250 guys were of all political stripes, and the main guy, John O'Neil voted for Gore in 2000. Leaving the impression that they were all just a bunch of Republicans out to get Kerry. Also, the swiftboat guys never said the military papers didn't support what Kerry said happened, they said that the papers were wrong. Most of the problem the vets had were their belief that he didn't deserve his medals and that he had a political agenda from the start and that he betrayed them by telling lies to Congress about atrocities committed by the vets themselves. Where is the lie? I have asked several of my liberal friends where was the lie? It was these guy's opinion that he didn't deserve them. That is not a lie. That is what they felt. Besides, the most harmful ad was the one showing Kerry himself speaking in Congressional hearings. Hardly a lie.
During Moyer's soft reasonable sounding rant of the "fair and balanced" Fox New's" panel, he shows clips of Bill Kristol and Fred Barnes, but never mentions liberals on the panel like Juan Williams, Mara Liasson, and Cissy (whose last name I can't remember, someone give it to me please and I'll put it in) or moderates like Mort Kondrake (although Kondrake is a democrat). He also tried to paint O'Reilly as some kind of anchor as well, but no mention of Susan Estrich or Gret Van Susteren or Linda Vester.
Moyers 2nd supposed lie put out by the rightwing was that Saddam was somehow connected to 9-11. He had no clips to show because that, of course, was never said nor implied by Fox News or Bush for that matter. Moyers proves it though by saying that 41% of those surveyed thought Saddam had something to do with 9-11. I hate to break it to Moyers, but 41% of the American people can't tell you where Poland is or who is the Sec. of State. Not because they are ignorant, but because they just don't care. How he figures it is Fox's fault that people believe that is beyond me.
His last guest, Anthony Romero of the ACLU was so sickening I can't even go into it. Maybe later I will tell you why I was so sickened other than the obvious. But they bantered on about Rush Limbaugh (showing only fat pictures of him by the way) and Rupert Murdock, rightwing talk radio, rightwing internet, and the popularity of Fox News and how it is ruining democracy. No mention of Michael Moore and his anti Bush political ad dressed up as a major motion picture. No mention of Air America or the bias of Dan Rather shown quite clearly at the end of the election with the fake memo, which we all know would have been taken as truth if not for Fox News. No mention of the last minute news story of the missing weapons in Baghdad that had to be dumped by 60 minutes when soldiers there started disputing the story.
Liberals need to start asking themselves why people like Rush, Hannity, and other rightwing radio is so popular. They need to ask themselves why people love Fox News who has actual conservatives on, instead of the fake or moderates called conservatives on CNN and the rest. Why are people listening? Because it makes sense. Because, starting with Reagan, the conservative message was finally being heard and we liked it. We learned that being conservative wasn't about hate, or discrimination, homophobia, or greediness as the liberals led us to believe. It was about moral values, smaller government, regulating spending, fighting socialistic programs, helping the poor in such a way that did not get them caught in a vicious cycle of poverty. It was about everything we thought and believed and finally someone was saying it for us.
Liberals have the same right, the same airwaves, the same voice as we do. Heck, they have the most powerful industry out there in their pocket, Hollywood. They have the biggest newpapers and the 3 main nightly news networks. So please don't whine to me about how conservatives are "brainwashing" people everyday with Rush and Hannity.
Bill Moyers ended his career condemning the very thing he was doing, distorting a story to spin it in such a way to make a certain thing or person look bad and pretending to present it in a fair way.

Illegal Alien Has Illegitimate Birth Baby Expected To Be Charged With Treason
By Harold Kitchenmouse
BETHLEHEM -- It was rumored today that an unmarried couple from Nazareth stopped in a manger owned by Alfredo Pinchi, a notorious local slumlord, and a baby was born.
"There was no running water, and the place was filled with straw," commented local public health authorities. "We even found a donkey inside!"
"The mother gave birth under extremely questionable circumstances," offered Pontius Pilate, Judean candidate for District Attorney. "She claims to have been a virgin."
Unconfirmed reports indicate that Roman authorities are investigating the baby on charges of sedition and treason. "There are a bunch of people running around alleging that the baby is the son of God," explained Pilate, "and that he will have some radical ideas about religion in the future."
Three Kings from the Orient were caught on the outskirts of Bethlehem by the Roman Border Patrol, carrying illegal contraband. "We caught them red-handed with frankincense and myrrh," explained an official with the Border Patrol. "And they didn't have any papers."
The Kings were promptly arrested and deported to Syria.
At virtually the same time as the baby was born, a bright star was sighted over Bethlehem. "This is an omen that things are about to radically change in the Empire due to Global Warming," commented Al Gore.

My favorite joke of the week.
Little Melissa comes home from first grade and tells her father that they learned about the history of Valentine's Day.
"Since Valentine's Day is for a Christian saint and we're Jewish," she asks, "will God get mad at me for giving someone a valentine?"
Melissa's father thinks a bit, then says "No, I don't think God would get mad. Who do you want to give a valentine to?"
"Osama Bin Laden," she says. "Why Osama Bin Laden," her father asks in shock.
"Well," she says, I thought that if a little American Jewish girl could have enough love to give Osama a valentine, he might start to think that maybe we're not all bad, and maybe start loving people a little bit. And if other kids saw what I did and sent valentines to Osama, he'd love everyone a lot. And then he'd start going all over the place to tell everyone how much he loved them and how he didn't hate anyone anymore."
Her father's heart swells and he looks at his daughter with newfound pride. "Melissa, that's the most wonderful thing I've ever heard."
"I know," Melissa says, "and once that gets him out in the open, the Marines could blow the @#*@ out of him."

Why are some men so stupid?
Did someone forget to tell the NY Times that Bernard Kerik is no longer nominated for the position of Homeland Security Chief? This is the lead story linked on Drudge. Don't bother to read it, it is just a juiced up story of Kerik having an affair with Judith Regan of Regan publishing who published his book in 2002. The NY times tries to make one think that Kerik used an apartment to have his affair that was used and paid for by NY taxpayers for ground zero workers to rest. But the thing is, Kerik did use the apartment to have an affair. But only after it was no longer being used for the purpose of workers to rest. Kerik asked to rent the apartment and he did and THEN he had the affair.
Now if you think I am going to defend this man for having an affair, I am not. I am disgusted and disappointed, but not surprised. Power tends to corrupt unless you have a strong faith to fight against the temptation of that power.
Interestingly, I had just finished reading an article on Judith Regan in Vainty Fair and it was not a glamorous piece. They portrayed her as the queen of ruthless sharks in the publishing world where sharks are commonplace. She has been married to rich and ruthless men as well. She went through a very nasty public custody battle with her last husband. All in all, she doesn't seem to be exactly the most wonderful person in the world and has a track record with rich powerful terrible men. I guess her and Kerik deserved each other.
Many other reporters are scrambling to find other pieces of dirt on Kerik because lets face it, to the NY Times having an affair is just not that big of a deal, which is why the NY Times article tries to juice it up a bit to make it out like he used the apartment that should have been used by the guys working at ground zero. They were trying their best to make it sound worse. They do point out that Kerik rented it, but that part kinda gets lost as they also hint about using influence and the cost of the apartment, which they obviously were not able to get information on.
Why are they still all over this guy even though he withdrew his nomination? Because he is a famous part of the administrations post 9-11 activities and the NY Times will not rest until it can ruin and destroy as many Republicans as possible.
I suppose I could say that I don't care what Kerik did in his personal life, and that all I care about is that he keep this country safe as Homeland Security Chief. And I did feel that way as long as none of the allegations were proven. But I have to back down on this one. I do care what people do in their personal lives. I think it speaks volumes of who they are, what values are important to them, and a whether to put them in a position of trust.
Perhaps Kerik was the best choice professionally, who knows? I don't expect people to be perfect. I understand mistakes, we all make them. But knowing what I know from Kerik, in his own words, and what I know of Regan, from her own words, these two people show no self control or self discipline and certainly no moral values. Those things mean something to me. I want people in leadership to have those kinds of values. Kerik clearly doesn't have them after all. It is especially maddening that he misled the Bush people about his background. He realized what would come out and he withdrew, but the leeches came anyway, he never had a chance. Not that he deserved one.
No one wins here. From the dirtfinders to Kerik to Regan, they all expose themselves for what they are, self involved selfish people willing to do anything to get what they want.
It is a shame for someone like Kerik who went through so much to achieve all that he did, that he would give in to the most basic temptation man is presented with... Cheating. It may not be enough for the NY Times to be done with him, but it is enough for me.

Merry Birthday.
I had another child's birthday last night! Yes, I had 3 of my 4 kids in Nov. and Dec. and the other in Feb. I Guess I was just frisky in the Spring...;-) I also have 3 other close family members in Dec. I am birthdayed out! My lucky little guy got something that I always wanted....a black Hummer! Noooo, not the real thing, but almost as big! It is a remote control one about 2 feet long. The inside looks like a real Hummer too with seatbelts and everything. The doors, hood, and trunk open and it has running lights and a LOUD engine and that sucker can fly too. Anyway, we had a lot of fun with it and the rest of the presents last night, but we stayed up too late and I am tired, so I am going back to bed. (don't hate me) I will try to get back to yall. Give me some interesting comments to come back to, ok?

Bad news for Blue staters. Red Staters are having more children. According to this article Blue staters have just as much sex, just not as many kids.
"...as the children of the children-oriented fill up the vacuum left by the childless. To be sure, some kids born into even the reddest states turn out to be "blue" spontaneously, becoming Midnight Cowboys. But if demographic destiny keeps grinding on, blue-state bohemias are destined to shrink. And so the red states will grow larger, culturally as well as politically."
I think we have already seen this occur. I think one of the big surprises of this election was the high number of the youth vote going Republican despite the HUGE effort of MTV and movie stars pushing the youth to vote Democrat.
I know Russell Simmons of 'Rap the Vote' and P. Diddy of "Vote or Die.' said after the election that they were disappointed at the lack of turnout. But then I read that actually more youth did turn out to vote, just not the way Simmons or Diddy wanted them to.
It seems the "family values' crowd tends to actually have families. Those kids grow up and vote. Now I am not saying that democrats don't have families, sure they do. But we seem to be having more kids for varied reasons I won't get into here. My oldest kids certainly show no signs of rebelling and are very conservative in their politics.
I did change from my politics of birth, but my entire family did as well, so it really was more of the Democrats leaving us, than a child rebelling from it's parents beliefs. We changed together.
It will be interesting to see how the youth of today grow into the poltics of tomorrow. Will they stick with their parents beliefs? If so, the Democrats do have something to be worried about for the future.

Plantation Politics?
Mimes, Minstrels And Miscalculation
by S. Jeffrey Jones
Do you really need to read the article to know it is a slam piece on Condi Rice? Doesn't the title say it all? (not to mention the usual racial insult?) Imagine someone writing an article on Charles Rangel with that title. The hypocrisy is astounding really.

Poor MoveOn.org, after spending so much on the election they don't even have enough money now for those little sticky notes. They have to write on their hands to remember things.
