Another 2 hour wait to vote yesterday in my area. MSNBC News says Texas isn't the only place this is happening. Honestly, I think part of it is that everyone just wants to get it over with. But maybe part of it is that people are nervous about the actual election day. I hope to God nothing bad happens with these mutants trying to disrupt the process. ( I am referring to the terrorists, not democrats...;-)

Russian special forces troops moved many of Saddam Hussein’s weapons and related goods out of Iraq and into Syria in the weeks before the March 2003 U.S. military operation, The Washington Times has learned. John A. Shaw, the deputy undersecretary of defense for international technology security, said in an interview that he believes the Russian troops, working with Iraqi intelligence, “almost certainly” removed the high-explosive material that went missing from the Al-Qaqaa facility, south of Baghdad. via Protein Wisdom

And this:

ABC says it has “confidential IAEA documents” showing that “on Jan. 14, 2003, the agency’s inspectors recorded that just over 3 tons of RDX was stored at the facility” — not 380 tons as reported by The New York Times on Monday.”

Just a tiny mistake there. Maybe if these news organizations weren't in such a hurry to smear Bush, they might get the story right the first time.

MSNBC reporting:
" U.S Defense officials said Tuesday that the materials could have vanished during a period of about 3 weeks, between March 15th, 2003. when inspectors for the IAEA confirmed that at least some of the materials were still stored under IAEA seal at Al-Qaqaa, and April 4th, when troops arrived."

the 101rst Airborne's Screaming Eagles, the troops there at the time are saying the weapons were not there when they arrived. Like I have said many times before, I will believe our warriors before I will believe any partisan news anchor or newspaper.

UPDATE:

The Head of IAEA does not want Bush re-elected so he kept putting this story out there. This story has been known since May of 2003 when inspectors noticed that the explosives were missing. The NY Times and CBS waited until now to blow it into a big story for the obvious reason. The soldiers on the ground are agreeing with the statement that the explosives were gone when U.S. forces arrived. All there at the time say that it was implausible that these weapons could have been taken with U.S forces in control of the one road to this facility. Considering that it wouldhave taken at least 100 men 2 weeks to remove these weapons (via Captain's Quarters) It seems clear te weapons were removed before our forces arrived.

On C-Span Liz Edwards predicts riots if Kerry loses:

"No, there won't be any riots after the election, not if we win."

It is widely speculated that Bin Laden is either dead or incapacitated and Al-Zarqawi is now the head mutant. I pray that our attacks on Fallujah will send this monster to the 72 virgin goats he so deserves.

A federal appeals court blocked a lower court ruling last week that ordered Michigan elections officials to count the ballots of voters who go to the wrong polling places. The blocked ruling said that the registration of voters who voted in the wrong precinct but the right community would be verified after the election.

Although this ruling allowing provisional ballots cast in the wrong precincts was blocked, the Sec. Of State said that voters who showed up at the wrong polling site would be turned away and directed to the proper precinct.
(in a related story, democrats are hiring off duty crossing guards from elementary schools to hold the voters hands as they guide them to the proper precinct) **Just kidding, but you believed it for a second, didn't you??

Florida, Missouri and Colorado have all ruled as well that the state must reject provisional ballots if they are cast in the wrong precinct.
Keep in mind that in these lawsuits those who were requesting that the provisional ballots be counted were democrats, who continually insult their voters by assuming they are too stupid to find out where they should go vote.

Just yesterday in Ohio U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones carried the message of the day to Ohio Democrats: "Be sure to vote in the correct precinct."
("you stupid idiots," she was heard to mutter under her breath) **Just kidding again, but come on! That's the implication, isn't it?

John Edwards campaigned in Ohio at the Allen Temple A.M.E. Church. To those who would complain that his church shouldn't get involved in political activity, Allen Temple Pastor Donald H. Jordan Sr. Had an answer: "I'm not worried about the (nonprofits) law. I'm asking you to support him," he said in introducing Edwards. I will never understand why Kerry just couldn't apologize to the Vietnam veterans, not for opposing the war, but for believing those who have been discredited for lying about seeing and participating in the "war crimes" that Kerry spoke of in his hearing before congress. Why can't he apologize for the pain they have experienced because of his words?

I have been IMing a bit with a 28yr old black man from Harlem who sponsers a hip hop site and is involved in 'rap the vote.' He tells me that the people he knows see no difference in Kerry and Bush. To them they are both from well to do families, both attended ivy league, both in the same fraternity. I told him that I understood his perspective, but found it amusing that I, on the other hand, see Kerry and Bush as different as night and day.

But it did give me the feeling that the black community may not feel the need to get out and vote for either candidate since they see no difference in them. And that could only hurt Kerry. But I want more than that. I want the black community to see that voting Reublican means that it's not about reaching down and helping you up, but about reaching over and seeing things eye to eye. Smaller government, lower taxes on indiviuals and business mean the same thing to black Americans as it does to white Americans. Building a culture of life, strengthening families, and protecting constitutional rights help us all to be a better people, a better society.

Don't be afraid to discuss these things with your black co-workers or friends. Every vote will count this election and it's time for a change in the way the black community votes.

We have early voting here in Texas. The news said that the polls were packed this weekend so I waited until 10:30 this morning and there was a 2 hour wait!! I have never seen that before!!! This is not exactly a swing state and I live in a pretty Republican area. I think everyone is serious about having their vote count. I think this is a good thing for Bush.

This doctor thinks having supplies of anthrax and smallpox vaccine was a waste when we could be subsidizing flu vaccine.

"Instead of spending all its vaccine money on the production of all but useless bioterror, the government, through a more prudent flu subsidy could increase the avaiability of a vaccine that might actually save lives.

Something tells me that if we ever got hit with a anthrax attack the vaccines might not seem so useless. Hey Doc, people can get over the flu, anthrax is pretty much a death sentence for everyone.

These people really don't see a terrorist threat at all, do they?

Countdown to Halloween!!!! 

This weekend I had to get 2 teens ready for homecoming. I had one football banquet and a baseball game. And then on Sunday I volunteered at the Church fall festival. In addition I was forced to watch "Shark Tale." Am I the only one who noticed the subtle cross dressing reference? I mean come on! A dad shark doesn't like his son because he doesn't want to kill and he likes to "dress like a dolphin." Oh well, the kids laughed alot and thats what is important. I am an unusual woman who doesn't like movies, TV ( have never watched Oprah or soaps ) or shopping. ( I firmly believe that online shopping is God's personal gift to me ) I cannot sit still long enough for TV. The only reason I can blog is because my computer is in my kitchen so I can get all my domestic stuff done as well.
Ok, back to politics.

The MSM and the left like to focus on the first Iraq. But we like to take comfort in the 2nd Iraq. Despite our disagreements about why we went into Iraq, I think all of us, left or right, hope that the 2nd Iraq becomes the democracy that we dream of.

Going into the home stretch it looks like Bush is a nose ahead. "PLEASE GOD PLEASE !!!" Oh.....sorry, got caught up in the moment.
We can only hope that Teresa will once again say something stupid or Kerry will decide to do another "I look like a regular guy, don't I?" appearance. By the way, who was that guy with Kerry on his hunting trip? A Goose caddy?

The insurgents here use fear, just as Saddam did, to try to make the people submit to the insurgents control. They blow up, behead, and execute those that refuse to submit. Fear remains an effective tool pushing the average Iraqi around sapping their will to fight back. However, they are. I have seen and read of so many brave Iraqis fighting and dying for the privileged to vote and the ability to be free. This is from 'boots on the ground.' Maybe we don't trust the media anymore. None of us are sure what to believe because we hear things filtered through political lenses. James doesn't paint a perfect picture, and contrary to what the left says that we somehow believe that everything is great in Iraq, we know that things are hard, difficult, and terrible. Such is war.
James speaks of his friend who died in the war:

"Some will argue that Rob and our country threw away his life on a war that should have never been fought. I can understand the sediment but from my viewpoint as a soldier on the ground, there are things worth putting your life at risk for. The saying that freedom isn't free is as true today as it was for our forefathers.."

The left is wrong to think that there are not times that we wonder if the sacrifice of our boys is worth it. They are wrong to think that we don't worry that things are out of control. I watch and listen closely to the news stories out of Iraq. I surf the milblogs and Iraqi blogs. I read European news pieces. Each sometime tell a different story. So who do we believe?

I believe the warrior.

I believe the warrior because he sees what we do not, because he is the one putting his life on the line. There is honesty there borne out of his willing sacrifice.
He lives the war.

I believe the warrior.

Why Did We Go Into Iraq?

My liberal friends ask me "Why did we go into Iraq?" I think the short answer can be find in the picture of Bush holding the 13 yr old little girl who lost her mom in the World Trade Center on 9-11. The look on Bush's face says it all.......Never again. Never again.

But here is my answer. Saddam and the hi-jackers are two sides of the same coin. Both believing that America was the enemy and both seething with rage toward our country, our democracy, and our freedom.
9-11 woke us up to a region of the world we could no longer ignore, We could no longer ignore the festering hate toward America that had spread in the middle east. We could no longer ignore the cult mindset of a warped Islamic faith. We could no longer ignore the breeding of monsters so mentally sick that they would send their own children to become weapons of death.

The natural instinct of humans to protect their young disappears into a fanatical evil where children are nothing more than a means to murder and mutilate the innocent.

Nor could we ignore the deep anger and rage of Saddam. We could no longer ignore his ability to seek revenge for thwarting his attempt to invade the region. Not because he had anything to do with planning 9-11, but because he shared with them the hatred of America and the mental sickness to extend that hate into the action of murdering Americans. No one argues that Saddam would have attacked us if given the chance.
Bush was simply never going to give him the chance.

In invading Iraq and taking down Saddam there is no doubt that we stirred up a hornet's nest. We had attacked and killed the enemy in Afghanistan. The monsters are enraged and like a rabid pit bull they will snarl and tear at the fabric of freedom until they are killed.

What we are seeing in Fallujah is what Bush called taking the fight to the enemy. Our brave warriors fight the good fight and it is never a pretty thing. But history shows us that some things are worth the bloody battles we fight. We have raged against tyranny, slavery, and hate before. The path of freedom is difficult and we are humbled by those who fight in our place, who rage against the evil that threatens our world.

That's my answer. You may disagree, but that is my view. At the heart of what we conservatives believe is that freedom, ours and theirs, is a God given right that cannot be torn from our hands by evil.

This is a hilarious "anti Bush' ad. It wasn't until they got to the kittens that I realized it wasn't real.

The Times told its readers that Bremer had fled abruptly, "afraid to look in the eye the people he had ruled for more than a year." In fact, as Iraq the Model reported, Mr. Bremer before leaving delivered a television address that gave a moving account of his tenure and his hopes for the new all-Iraqi interim government.
Ali Fadhil, a key author of Iraq the Model, is thirty-four years old, a Sunni, and a Baghdad doctor. In an interview with WSJ OpinionJournal he talks about present day Iraq:
"Maybe in a real sense, I am less safe than I was under Saddam. But then I never felt safe. We were always in fear of some bad surprise from the authorities. Now, the threat is different, but it is random (he is thinking of the car bombs). Personally I also feel safer because I am free."
He is also better off, making about $200 a month instead of the $3 a month doctors earned under the Baathists. Ali is appalled by the terrorists, but not surprised. "We are at war and the enemy is fighting back, so why be surprised about that?" he asks. "Iran, some in Saudi Arabia, all the Islamist groups, and the former Baathists, of course, naturally are funding the fighting. They want to terrorize us before the elections, so things are going to get worse before then. But when terrorists see that the people demand democracy, they will feel they have lost. Many will leave."

Slate magazine dispels the myth that Bush's tax cuts benefit only the wealthy:
"If you and your spouse have a taxable income of $60,000 a year, you've had almost a 24 percent income tax cut since President Bush took office. (And ditto if your income was just $20,000.) Meanwhile, the folks who make $350,000 a year got a cut of only about 12.5 percent; those who make $1 million a year got an even smaller cut.
Pre-Bush, the $1 million a year couple paid 33 times as much as the $60,000 couple; today they pay more than 38 times as much. Here's the big picture:
Overall, the biggest percentage cuts went to the poorest of the poor (those with incomes in the $10,000 range) and the next biggest to those making about $60,000. After that, with some minor dips up and down, the relative size of your tax cut falls off as your income rises."
The article goes on to take into account capital tax gains, earned income tax credit ect.. The fact remains the same. The rich pay more, alot more.

I heard on Fox News today that Kerry had 10,000, yes I said 10,000 lawyers on hold at all the battleground states. Is there any doubt that even if Bush wins litigation will follow? If there is one place the democrats have learned they usually win it's with the court and liberal judges who love to be 'historic" and ignore the will of the people.

It's one part Risk, one part The Sims and one part raw supercomputing power. It's also the tool that could one day give the U.S. military the upper hand in urban conflicts akin to the ones currently taking place in Iraq. For instance, military leaders could use Urban Resolve to predict what would happen if they destroyed the electricity source in a particular city. It's also realistic. But realism isn't the only reason military leaders like the simulator. He's so dead. If he wasn't playing phone footsie then he wouldn't be worried about it.... Poor wife.

Ever wonder why so many other countries hate us? Envy, of course. It's like hating the homecoming queen. We hate her, but we want to be just like her.

I am sick of hearing how this country has "never been more divided." Excuse me? Weren't we so divided in the last election that it took a freakin month to decide the election? And Clinton was no landslide either. We have been divided for a long time and we will continue to be no matter which party wins the presidency.
The divide is at the very heart of the Democratic and Republican parties. We see things in a fundamentally different way. I don't think I need to go over the ideological differences here, everyone knows them. I don't see that changing anytime soon. Nor do I see how it could change. Why? Because of the compromises the Presidents of both parties have made in the past. Bush senior compromised on taxes and raised them like a good democrat, but fought an excellent war like a Republican. Clinton governed like a Republican in most ways on trade and welfare reform, but kept true to the social issues for democrats. There are many conservatives who don't even consider George W. Bush a conservative in the least. He spends like a democrat but holds strong to conservative family values. Sorta the opposite of Clinton.
You see? Neither party gets to see their vision fully played out, so we keep pushing and pushing for that. Reagan came close to being pure on his beliefs and vision and governing that way. That's why so many of us loved him. And not just half of America either.
To me it basically comes down ideologically to those who want to tolerate just about everything, damn the consequences and the children, and those who want to stop that train of 'anything goes' before we end up as some Sodom and Gamorrah. How do you expect these two visions to ever compromise? We don't. They won't. But our government does it for us. Our Presidents do it for us.
Maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Have you seen the new MoveOn PAC ad bashing Bush where Bush is asked to name his biggest mistake since 9-11? The ad was produced by the meathead himself...that's right. Rob Reiner. I suppose it is possible for an actor to actually morph into the character he played on TV.

Is Black Voting Being Suppressed?

John Kerry in a recent speech for the NAACP said, "that a million disenfranchised African-Americans and the most tainted election in American history is the best we can do?"

How did Kerry come up with one million? The number came from a natural extrapolation of the 57,000 Floridians who according to the August 2001 report of the Commission on Civil Rights (which used some statistical extrapolation, hypothetical scenarios, and so on)--were denied the right to vote. The commission didn't repeat that number in their final April 2003 report, instead conceding that "it is impossible to determine the extent of the disenfranchisement." In fact out of the six-month investigation by the U.S. Commission of Civil Rights and also an investigation by the Civil Rights Division of the Justice Dept. They found there was absolutely no truth to any of those allegations, not one person who was intimidated or had their vote stolen. There was no disenfranchisement, no truth to any of those allegations. You didn't know that??? Well that's exactly what the democrats wanted. Better for them to spread dishonest rumors than to be happy that no suppression was found. (Source: Peter Kirsanow, an attorney and black Republican who sits on the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights.)

I went searching for examples of this "disenfranchisement" because after growing up in the middle of the civil rights movement, if I thought for one second that black voters were really being disenfranchised, I would be the first one protesting and demanding fairness. Here are the examples I found:

From The Guardian: A former employee of a company hired by the Republican party to register voters in Nevada said that he was told to throw Democrats' registration forms away.

If true, absolutely wrong. But it did say "democrat" registration, not "black." So now blacks are automatically considered democrat? Sorry, some are actually Republican. But if you don't think organizations like MoveOn.org, Rock the Vote, and Vote or Die and many other left leaning voter registration drives don't toss the forms that denote Republican, your living in a fantasy world.

Florida Gov.Jeb Bush introduced a rule that registration forms should be rejected if a citizenship check box is not complete.
Ohio's Republican Sec. of State attempted to enforce a rule by which only registration cards printed on heavy, 80lb paper stock would be accepted. (Claiming that lighter cards might be shredded by postal equipment)
The CEO of Diebold, which makes many of the voting machines, said he was "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes" to Bush.

How do the first 2 examples suppress black voting? I have no idea. Unless one thinks blacks are completely stupid. (I'll get back to who might think that in a minute). Since when is it suppression of any kind to require that forms are filled out correctly? And what the heck does the paper weight have to do with anything? And finally, Just because you are a CEO of a company that makes voting machines you can't come out for a candidate? And since when is being for Bush automatically means suppressing black votes?? I would think it would be about getting MORE black votes for Bush so that he can win the state. Can you believe this so far?? Stick with me.

John Pappageorge, Michigan's Republican state legislator, told a Republican meeting: "If we do not suppress the Detroit vote, we are going to have a tough time in this election cycle."

I read this quote over and over in my search. Detroit is 83% black, so the the word Detroit=Black, right? Anyone stop to think that Detroit=Democrat???? Yeah. Now should he have said "suppress?" for a any voting bloc? No. But again, if you don't think democrats talk about suppressing the evangelical vote ( as in "mention Cheney's lesbian daughter") then once again, your living in a fantasy world.

According to the Washington Post, in 2000, 42% of ballots rejected by Duval county in Florida came from mainly black areas.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but there is NO WAY to tell on a ballot if someone is black or not, am I right? The ballots were not filled out properly. Which happens all the time all over the country by all kinds of people. What is an election board suppose to do? Ballots MUST be filled out correctly. To insinuate that black people can't seem to do that is such an insult to them. But more about that later.

The next two are the doozies--

In Ohio the election board was set to rule that anyone who turned up at the wrong polling station would not be able to cast a provisional ballot (to be verified later). The democrats sued successfully saying that the ruling would disadvantage minority and poor voters who move more often.

So the democrats think that black people are so stupid they can't figure out which polling place to go to when they move. It seems obvious to me that this is a consistent theme of the democrats and very insulting to blacks.

The Washington Post reports that depriving prisoners and those on parole the right to vote has become a key issue.". An estimated 5 million Americans are affected by felony voting restrictions. Black males account for about 8% of the U.S. population and 40% of the prison population."

I have touched on this before. So we are "suppressing" the black vote by not allowing those who commit crimes such as rape and murder to vote?? When someone commits a felony they lose certain rights. Anyone who argues this is just sad. These are horrible crimes against society and NO they should not be allowed to vote- Black, White, Asian, or Hispanic. My God, how many times will they insult the black community and feed the fire of racism by implying that in order for black men to vote we have to open it up to the prison population?????? Do they not realize how this sounds?? What message it sends??

Bush has put blacks in his most trusted positions in his administration. Laura Bush's best friend is a black woman. Does Kerry have some personal connections to the black community other than spreading these lies in the black churches by standing at the pulpit and preaching at those who he hopes will vote for him? I don't see any.

Finally, this is what black people went through in the 60's in order to vote. To throw out silly allegations with no merit diminishes the memory of those who truly had something to protest against and what they did in order to be able to vote. Shame on the democrats for this and shame on Republicans for not reaching out to the black community with the truth.
Lets hope this is the October surprise.

I am pretty sure that is what Cheney was talking about when he implied that terrorists would be emboldened by the defeat of Bush.

The Sacramento Bee says that 80% of California highschoolers are not ready for college level english. 45% are not ready for college level math. Good Lord! That boggles the mind. Keep in mind that these are the targets for the 'Rock The Vote.'

The Guardian is reporting that the U.S. has requested UK troops to fill in for Americans south of Baghdad, while US troops undertake operations against "terrorists" elsewhere in the country. It is speculated that it will be the U,K's Black Watch regiment that replaces them. Is that a cool name or what?

Teresa Heinz Kerry paid an overall average federal tax rate of 12.4% on her millions in 2003. Many will point out the hypocrisy of her husband wanting to increase taxes when he himself is avoiding paying "his fair share." But that may be missing the bigger picture.
I am a simple woman and I look at things in a simple way. Kerry has promised a great deal if he becomes President and it takes money to deliver on those promises. He has said that he will rollback the tax cuts and increase taxes on those making over $200,000.
Now lets think about that. One does not make over $200,000 a year by being stupid. And even if you are stupid, you hire tax lawyers who are not. Teresa is a perfect example of this. Does anyone think for a moment she is the only millionaire paying an average 12.4% tax rate? I think we know that everyone with a great deal of money has a tax accountant on hand to make sure they get to keep as much as they can. So doesn't this mean that rolling back the tax cuts and imposing new taxes will not really generate the needed cash Kerry needs to fund his promises????

Reagan understood that lower tax rates means more money in consumer's pockets and more money spent in the economy. Bush understands that too. And for all those out there thinking "greedy Republicans," you might be interested to know that during the Reagan years when tax rates were at their lowest, people gave more to charities than ever before. We aren't greedy, we just like to give money to charities that we know are doing the best jobs in helping the poor and needy.

ABC reports: Republicans have better sex than democrats. Is anyone surprised by this?

Have you read about the exchange between Ed Gillespie of the Republican national Committee and Jehmu S. Green, President of Rock the Vote regarding the phony draft scare and MTV's copy of a draft notice signed by Rumsfield on it's website? Fred Schoeneman has it and the screenshot of the draft notice. Jehmu responds to Gillespie's complaints saying that Bush or "for even that matter Kerry" cannot guarantee that there will be no draft and that no one trusts their promises. Then why bring it up as an election issue? How does bringing the draft into it help the youth to decide who to vote for if both men agree on the issue?????

Because we all know it's not about the draft issue, it's about not voting for Bush. The draft notice isn't signed by a fictional Sec. Of Defense. It's signed by the Sec. Of Defense under Bush.

It's all about deception.

UPDATE: INDC Journal is reporting that MTV has change the signature on the draft notice to 'Charles Rangel.'

If you are under the impression that they are now trying to be fair or even placate the Republicans, think again. It is all about thier 'non-partisan' status. Wouldn't want to put that in jeopardy, now would we? Then people would think you were just a partisan hack. Yeah.

Police Call on Kerry to Stop Misrepresenting Their Support

Chuck Canterbury, the President of the nation’s largest police labor organization, called on John Kerry to stop making misleading statements regarding his support from the law enforcement community. Canterbury said. “The real majority of my fellow officers are standing behind President Bush, because he has been there for us.”

Ouch.

Washington Post columnist and Fox News contributer Charles Krauthammer responds to Kerry and Edward's lies about stem research and the shame of giving false hope for political gain:
"In my 25 years in Washington, I have never seen a more loathsome display of demagoguery. Hope is good. False hope is bad. Deliberately, for personal gain, raising false hope in the catastrophically afflicted is despicable."

Ouch again.

Krauthammer, a doctor by training with a more than passing interest in any kind of research on spinal cord injuries, being in a wheelchair himself. Krauthammer goes on to say:
"Edwards and Kerry constantly talk of a Bush "ban" on stem cell research. This is false. There is no ban.

When the whole swiftboat thing came out I truly did not care what John Kerry had done at 24 as a Vietnam war protestor. What someone did 30 yrs ago is just not relevant now. People grow up, people mature, and people change. But now I see that that is the problem with Kerry. He hasn't changed. To this day he uses other people's suffering for his own gain. There is not a issue he will not exploit to score political points. Whether it is Christopher Reeve's paraylsis, Cheney's daughter homosexuality, or scaring the eldery with social security concerns. Kerry uses people to prop up his distortions. He also lies, lies constantly. Lies about stem cell research, lies about police officers supporting him, lies about being in Cambodia on Christmas eve in 1968, lies about the possibility of the draft, lies about his stance on the war, lies about his own voting record, and now is lying about plans for privatizing social security completely.
30 yrs ago he lied about the criminal activity of war veterans and he continues to lie today.

On a lighter note, Rolling Stone magazine sent a undercover comedian to the Bush headquarters in Orlando. I expected it to be a slice and dice piece on Republicans and there are a few jabs and jokes but check this out:

" When I got there, I expected a teeming, ultramodern NORAD-style campaign headquarters, where I would have to work my way up a giant totem pole. But in fact what I found was -- nothing at all. For all intents and purposes, there was no campaign for George Bush in Orlando in early June. If the Republicans were building an electoral Death Star somewhere, it sure as hell wasn't in Florida.

In a laughable article in Rolling Stone complaining of media bias against Kerry, we read the reason for all the late night shows and barbs at Bush was because Kerry had stated "I need humor."

Too bad, it's the only thing he can't buy. But what Kerry really needs is a conscience.

Operation Viking Hammer. History in the making.

U.S News and World Report has a riveting article in its Oct. 18th issue about Operation Viking Hammer. A extraordinary firefight during the liberation of Iraq by our Special Forces against what turned out to be a International terrorist training camp in Iraq. It reads like a movie script. here's a excerpt describing part of the fight with the team sergeant "Grit," a commando for 13 yrs in the Special Forces.

"Grit had been in plenty of fixes before, but this was as hairy as anything he'd seen. He knew they had to move before the next barrage. On the count of three, they dashed to the next wall and hurled themselves behind it. Then they looked back. The next mortar rounds hit the spot they had just fled.
The Ansar fighters immediately began readjusting their aim. Within minutes, mortar rounds were kicking up clods of dirt and grass all around them."

I'll spoil the ending for you. They kicked ass. (I seem to be saying that a lot in my blog) earning them 3 Silver Stars and six Bronze Stars with V for Valor.
And in case your confused. Yes, this was as we were liberating Iraq. And yes, the terrorists fighting our men were found with foreign identity cards from all over the middle east............ International terrorists........ In Iraq.......When we were liberating it. Yeah.

Afghanistan. Victory and Valor.

Christopher Hitchen of Vanity Fair Magazine spent some time in Afghanistan recently. Keep in mind that if there is a more anti-Bush magazine than Vanity Fair, I am not aware of it. His article this month is fascinating. He perhaps didn't realize how it confirms American policy in Afghanistan or it could be just actual fair journalism. Probably both.
He said that the thing that struck him in a overwhelming way was the change for women. He says:

"Three years ago, you could not look an Afghan woman or girl in the eye. Half the population was chatter or other property: Invisible, enveloped, and voiceless. The male members of their families could literally give them away as bargaining chips, or prizes. Arbitrary and lascivious punishments, ususally totted up in lashes but sometimes in lethal stones, were the enforcement of this slavery. You can still read, quite often, of young women who set themselves on fire to avoid forced marriage and other types of bondage."
He reminds us that this was the world of Bin Laden and the Taliban regarding women.

Fully 41% of those registered to vote at the time of the article were women. Now the women were showing their faces and hair, going to school, and finding their voice in society.

We now know that the threats of widespread bombing and violence on election day were empty threats, thank God. Not that isolated acts of violence won't continue, they will. As long as even a few of the mutants of Bin Laden live, they will spread the evil that consumes them. But even a writer of vanity Fair acknowdleges this common thought:
"If Osama bin Laden is still alive, he has a very faint and unconvincing way of demonstrating it."

Bottom line: Al Qaida and Taliban attacked us. We went into Afghanistan and kicked their ass. The people of Afghanistan have been pulled from the darkness of ignorance and shame into the sweet light of freedom.

A remarkable victory and a undebatable change in the history of the middle east for the better. Bush could have easily let that victory be it. With this historic vote in Afghanistan and no war in Iraq, Bush would now be facing a landslide victory, no doubt. Most politicians might have done exactly that. To win re-election if nothing else. But Bush saw and felt a clear threat from Saddam. He was not going to risk another attack and felt it was time to remove this madman from a region that had long been planting and sowing deep seeds of hatred for the United States. Decisions like this take courage. Some may call Bush a lot of things, but full of self interest is not one of them. What President wouldn't relish a victory over the Taliban and Bin Laden and sit back and enjoy the accolades?
Not this one.

Everyone agrees that all involved from the UN to European nations to the U.S. believed that Saddam had WMD. He had used them and we have the mass graves to prove it. Everyone agrees that Saddam was madman bent on power, killing, and control of the region. Everyone agrees that his sons were even worse and waiting in the wings for their turn at continuing the evil. We can never know "what might have been" if Saddam had not been taken down. We can't know what horror we prevented in the future or how many lives we saved.

The left will always insist that Saddam was not much of a threat. Evil? Sure. Hated the U.S. with every fiber of his being? Sure. Tortured and killed his own people? Sure. Tried invading other countries? Sure. Planned on developing his weapons program after attention died down? Sure. Embezzled millions from the food for oil program that made his people suffer? Sure. Then Coulter tells us what does motivate liberals to take up arms:

*Unless it causes Bush to win. Then the aliens are just nuisances.

Afghans voted in a free election for the first time ever. The commander of U.S. troops Lt. General David Barno said the election had dealt a major blow to the remaining Taliban and "The overwhelming success of this election was a strategic defeat for the Taliban and al Qaeda and is a turning point for Afghanistan."
We bring democracy to a part of the world that DESPERATELY needs it, and crush al Quaeda there (you remember, the ones who flew our planes into the WTC) and the above cartoon is how the left looks at it.

Rueters is reporting that U.S. Forces have arrested the Sunni Muslim Cleric al Jumili (who happens to be the 'police chief' --meaning insurgent leader) and two other 'police officers' as they fled Fallujah for a nearby resort town. Always good when the 'police chief' cuts and runs. The arrest happened after U.S. air attacks on the city yesterday aimed at Zarqawi targets.
Lets keep our soldiers there in our prayers today, ok?
