We all expect politicians to renege on certain campaign promises, but Obama has raised this common practice to an art form.
In 2008 Obama spent $44 million on 16 tv ads bashing McCain about taxing employer-provided health insurance. In October of that year Obama called McCain's plan "so radical, so out of touch with what you're facing, and so out of line with our basic values." Now Obama is "leaving the door open to a new tax on employer-provided health care benefits." You better believe it's open. If they can tax it, they will.
This has become common with Obama. He says one thing and does the opposite, and it isn't just our side noticing. The left noticed when he continued Bush's policy of warrantless wiretaps, fighting the release of photos of detainees, and now, over at HotAir, we see that Andrew Malcolm is noticing that Obama has drafted a presidential executive order that would allow us to hold suspected terrorist detainees indefinitely.
As Ed at HotAir points out, Obama is essentially endorsing the detention policies of George Bush. But don't hold your breath waiting for Obama to apologize to Bush for slandering him for that exact thing for the last two years, or admitting that Bush was right all along on the war on terror, from detention to warrantless wiretaps.
And finally, in 2008 Obama admitted that cap and trade would "cause energy prices to skyrocket."
Remember that no new taxes pledge for "95% of American workers?" Well for those of you who are actually still working in this economy, you will most certainly be taxed under Cap and Trade. If you use energy, you will be taxed. That's the dirty little secret. If you drive to work, school, activities, and heat or cool your home, you will be taxed. I'm pretty sure that's just about everyone. We heard the "95%" thing over and over during the campaign, and unfortunately too many bought it and believed it. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that it will cost a family anywhere from $680 to $1500 a year. Then there are the net job losses in energy dependent sectors, which could go into the millions. It's all very complicated, but basically Cap and Trade takes from industrial America and gives to Silicon Valley and Wall Street "green tech" investors. It's all about the "green," but not the environmental green.
Cap and Trade will impose a serious economic harm to this country with very little evidence of the benefits to our environment.
Never before has a politician's lies meant so much danger to our country.
Make your calls my friends, this is important.
