It's hard out here for a pastor..

Have you heard about Pastor Wright building a 1.6 million dollar mansion in Chicago. It has 10,000 sq ft to accommodate his huge ego I suppose.

It's terrible how black men like Pastor Wright and Obama just can't make it in this white world.

Is it just me? I feel like anyone who is a pastor should not be dripping in wealth. Good grief, it seems so wrong to me.

Dodd: Well, it’s more deciding who the winner of this is — I mean, if a person wants to stay in the race, stay in the race. But if you have enough people rallying behind what appears to be the likely choice, and I believe the choice is Barack Obama, and I believe that will be the choice over the next several weeks. Then I think you have to step up to the plate and say, enough is enough. We want this to be over with. We want to get behind this candidate, and we want people to pull together to win that election in November.

There will be a convention fight folks

If there was any doubt that Hillary will fight to the end, it can be set to rest with her interview with Greta on Fox News last night.

HotAir has the video, but it goes like this. She will demand that Michigan and Florida delegates count. She will make sure that Michigan and Florida get angry enough about it to force the DNC to do so. "Their votes must count and all that." The DNC does NOT want these important states to be ticked off at them come election time. Especially when all polls show that many Democrats are more than willing to vote for McCain.

Hillary will get the seated Florida and Michigan delegates, be ahead in the delegate count, and convince the superdelegates her way (probably with some interesting info on them from her FBI file no doubt...and I'm NOT kidding).


This will be for the DNC what is called "being between a rock and a hard place." They either make the delegates from Michigan and Florida angry or make Obama supporters angry. The only solution that might ease things along is for Hillary to ask Obama to be V.P., but that doesn't seem to appeal to Obama. And who could blame him? To be stuck with the Clintons for their second run at embarrassing us in the White House, who would want that? In addition Pelosi seems to think that that "dream ticket," with either on top, will not happen. You have to think she has some inside info on that.

I've said this many times and I'll say it again. Hillary has plotted and planned for this her whole life. She is not going to let some rookie take it from her. If this takes a bloody convention, then so be it.Does anyone imagine that Hillary cares more about the Democrat party than she does about her own ambition?

It's going to be as delicious as all Republicans hoped it would be.

The answer to black poverty

Obama's sweeping race speech missed the most vital tool the black community needs to raise itself out of poverty. It's pretty simple really.

Marry the mother of your children and stay married.

This naturally applies to people of all races of course, but out of wedlock births have most deeply affected the black community:

The connection between family breakdown and child poverty is well established. In a 1991 American Sociological Review article, David J. Eggebeen and Daniel T. Lichter estimated that if black family composition had remained constant from 1960 to 1988, the black child poverty rate in 1988 would have been 28.4 percent instead of 45.6 percent. If black family composition had remained constant from 1980 to 1988, Eggebeen and Lichter said, the black child poverty rate in 1988 would have been 40 percent instead of 45.6 percent.

"This implies that changing black family structure in the 1980s accounted for roughly 65 percent of the increase in official poverty among black children," they noted. "Black family shifts in the 1980s also accounted for 51 percent of the increase in deep poverty, and about 90 percent of the growth in relative child poverty." Family breakdown also had an intensifying effect on the child poverty rates of whites, but it "had a much greater effect on the child poverty rates of blacks."

It's all well and good to discuss race as an issue, as Obama did, but to ignore the root of poverty for so many black Americans, keeps us from dealing with the problem. Out of wedlock births for blacks stands at 70%. Such a shocking number and so devastating to the family structure and clearly the cause of poverty for so many. Mostly because of culture. So many problems across the board can be attributed to the breakdown of the family and all races have been affected by it. None so much as African Americans though. Yet we hardly ever address it. Why?

We all like to pretend that our sexual freedom has no consequences. But the truth is that the consequences are vast and deep. From sexually transmitted diseases to abortion to out of wedlock births. These are all self inflicted wounds. As real and profound as these consequences are, no one seems to care enough to do much about it. From policy to TV to movies to music we put our stamp of approval on the very behavior that sends so many children into poverty.

Celebrities and stars do concerts and benefits for the rainforest and tell us that we need to think about the future of our children, yet they promote and live a lifestyle that contributes to a dismal future of poverty for our children. There is much irony there.

Obama's pastor clearly blames many of the black community's problems on white America, but Obama should know better. Obama grew up without a father. He overcame that, but so many others do not. If Obama really wanted to change race relations and change black America for the better, he would do well to address the issue of family breakdown, the causes and the reasons, and promote a centered life that gives us happy healthy children of all colors. Promote and talk about marriage and family. It doesn't cost the taxpayer a dime and Obama's own faith has a pretty great guidebook on how to make it all work.

When the left like the KosKids get a talking point they love there is no talking it out of them, no matter how much or how often you prove them wrong. This has been the case with their accusation that McCain said he wanted to keep us at war in Iraq for another 100 years.

Anyone who heard what McCain said knows that that isn't what he said, but now even Obama and Hillary are repeating this mantra of stupidness.

Here is what Hillary said today:

Like President Bush, Senator McCain wants to keep us tied to another country's civil war, and said “it would be fine with me” if U.S. troops were in Iraq for 50 or even 100 years. That in a nutshell is the Bush/McCain Iraq policy.”

Here is what McCain said:

What McCain said at a townhall meeting in New Hampshire in January was inarguably true. He was asked about President Bush’s comment that we could stay in Iraq for 50 years. McCain replied, “Make it 100. We’ve been in South Korea . . . we’ve been in Japan for 60 years. We’ve been in South Korea for 50 years or so. That would be fine with me. As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed, that’s fine with me. I hope that would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where al-Qaeda is training, recruiting and equipping and motivating people every single day.”

As Kathryn Jean Lopez at NRO points out:

The statement speaks for itself. If we prevail in Iraq and the violence ends, American troops can be stationed there just as they are in other peaceful, strategically important countries such as South Korea and Japan. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have suggested that this means McCain “wants to fight a 100-year war,” in Obama’s words. This is so obvious a distortion that it must backfire against Democrats over time, especially if they nominate Barack Obama, who has so loudly advertised his commitment to civil discourse (at least outside of church).

Conservatives have a "hate based" campaign against Obama?

Paul Waldman at The American Prospect blames conservatives for all of Obama's race problems.

For months, I've been predicting that conservatives would delicately prompt voters to see Barack Obama through the lens of race. They'd drop hints, they'd make roundabout arguments, they'd find a hundred subtle ways to encourage people to vote their prejudices, while denying vociferously that they were doing anything of the sort.

Oh, it gets better:

...these kinds of attacks have their greatest power when they tap into pre-existing archetypes voters already carry with them, and the deeper they reside in our lizard brains the better. So they will make sure white Americans know that Obama is not Tiger Woods. He's not the unthreatening black man, he's the scary black man. He's Al Sharpton, he's Malcom X, he's Huey Newton. He'll throw grievance in your face, make you feel guilty, and who knows, maybe kill you and rape your wife.

What???!!

The Republicans are certainly setting down their marker: they intend, as they have so many times before, to wage a campaign appealing to the ugliest prejudices, the most craven fears, the most vile hatreds. It's not that people should vote against Obama just because he's black, they're saying, but you know, he's that kind of black.

When did we say that exactly? When did we start waging this campaign? Because I did not get the memo.

You see, none of this has anything to do with the fact that Obama's pastor for 20 years is a racist himself. Although I can't figure out how Pastor Wright raging against white America isn't the cause of this, but allowing America to see him raging is.

As I recall NBC news first aired the video clips of Pastor Wright and soon all other news agencies followed. I thought we conservatives were only in charge of Fox News. Heh.

This Trinity United Church of Christ newsletter (PDF link) from last June seems to be making the rounds in Jewish circles. I have now had it e-mailed to me three times in the last 24 hours from friends who all more or less seem to have gotten it through their synagogues. On page 8 of the newsletter, entitled “Pastor’s Page”, Jeremiah Wright prints an “Open Letter to Oprah from Ali Baghdadi on her visit to Palestine.” Baghdadi is described as an “Arab-American activist, writer, columnist,” and the letter, among other things, accuses Israel of once working with South Africa “on an ethnic bomb that kills Blacks and Arabs.”

It also accuses Israel of war crimes, quotes Arnold Toynbee saying that “what the Zionist Jews did to the Palestinians is worse than what the Nazis did to the Jews,” speaks of “Israeli death squads” and so on.

Mostly very familiar accusations, of course (though I don’t know if I’ve heard the one about the ethnic bomb to kill “Blacks and Arabs” before), but apparently the Rev. Wright saw fit to pass them along to his congregation; and someone else (I can't imagine who) has seen fit to make sure Jewish voters contemplating their options in the remaining Democratic primaries are aware of it. There are very few states where Jewish voters really make a difference, but Pennsylvania is one of them.

Fair or not, this reflects on Obama. How many things will come out about Pastor Wright that Obama will claim he knew nothing about? It strains incredulity. The Obama camp should be worried.

Not to pile on Hillary but.....

What? Of course we pile on Hillary! How fun is it?! I would say that I will miss her when she is gone, but I'm not counting her out just yet. Ruthless is her middle name, but you have to laugh at what the comedian, Sinbad (traveling with Hillary) said about the "sniper fire" incident/lie in Bosnia that Hillary claimed happened (and has since said she "misspoke."):

In an interview with the Sleuth Monday, he said the "scariest" part of the trip was wondering where he'd eat next. "I think the only 'red-phone' moment was: 'Do we eat here or at the next place.'"

.......

In her Iowa stump speech, Clinton also said: "We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady."

Sinbad responds: "What kind of president would say, 'Hey, man, I can't go 'cause I might get shot so I'm going to send my wife...oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.'"

Actually, President Clinton could have said that.

Clinton has proposed the government help people who are struggling to keep their homes by freezing foreclosures, guaranteeing new loans and possibly acting as a temporary purchaser of mortgages. McCain today warned against this kind of action saying, "I have always been committed to the principle that it is not the duty of government to bail out and reward those who act irresponsibly, whether they are big banks or small borrowers."

Clinton bashed him for those remarks, which were read to her by a reporter.

"It sounds remarkably like Herbert Hoover,” she said, “and I don't think that's good economic policy. You know, we have a framework of regulation. It needs to be updated and modernized. The government has a number of tools at its disposal that are well-suited for just this situation, and I think that inaction has contributed to the problems we face today, and I believe further inaction would exacerbate those problems."

I don't think anything could illustrate more the difference in how people like Hillary think. Why don't we just pay off all the cars that have been re-possessed as well? Just because you and I buy a car that we can afford and pay the notes doesn't mean that EVERYONE has to! Let's just use our hard earned tax money to pay off their car loans. Why not?
